Volvo XC60

Car Review in India

Cons

Overview

The Volvo XC60 is the first launch from the Swedish company in India after it was bought by Chinese carmaker Geely in 2010. The compact crossover SUV was the company’s bestselling model in 2009. The car has been launched in the Indian market in a single D5 turbo-diesel engine variant coupled with a six speed Geartronic transmission.

Powertrain Performance

The new Volvo XC60 is equipped with the latest generation D5 turbo-diesel that gives extraordinary performance and fuel economy. The engine features sequential twin turbo and the latest Piezo high-pressure injector technology and gives a supreme torque of 420 Nm across the rev range. The maximum power output given by the engine is 205bhp.

The new D5 engine already complies with the Euro 5 exhaust emission requirements.

The advanced engine is paired with a six-speed Geartronic transmission. This transmission gives you the option of six-speed automatic mode for carefree driving as well as manual gearshift. Additionally, you have a winter mode that makes it easier to get under way when conditions are slippery.

The Volvo XC60 can accelerate from 0-100kmph in less than 8.9 seconds, and the top speed is 210kmph.

The suspension in the Volvo XC60 is standard with McPherson linkage with hydraulic shock absorbers and stabilizer bars at both ends.

The suspension works effortlessly fine and ensures comfortable and quiet ride, both in the city as well as highways.

The advanced Haldex® AWD system with Instant Traction™ features an electronic management system, which constantly monitors the speed of the wheels, the throttle, engine torque, engine speed and the brakes. And as the driving tracks change, wheels with the best grip get the most power. When a tire loses traction, power is reduced to that wheel and instantly transferred to the more sure-footed wheels.

Build Styling

The Volvo XC60, which is a smaller version of the XC90, stands out in a crowd. The unique combination of wraparound headlamps, trapezoidal grille, the beefy bumper and the vertical LED parking light strips give it a very distinctive stance.

The front and the rear seats of the Volvo XC60, supported by ergonomic design, pronounced side supports and luxurious padding, are one of the most comfortable ones in its class. Adding to the comfort quotient of the car are features like stepless lumbar support in the driver’s seat, manually adjustable front seats and power driver’s seat and manual height adjustable passenger seats. Forget the cold mornings in the winter season.

Volvo presents heated seats for the driver, front seat passenger and the rear passengers in three settings.

The Electronic Climate Control unit ensures a pleasant in-car climate. The driver front-seat passenger can regulate the temperature individually for each side. Also featuring is a built-in cabin filter that prevents dust, pollen and exhaust particles from entering the cabin.

Volvo has gone the extra mile to keep the XC60’s occupants well informed and entertained. The Bluetooth automatically switches calls from the mobile phone to the hands-free system. A console-integrated radio and CD player with 6 loud speakers and 4×20 amplifiers takes good care of your musical needs.

It sounds good, looks good and it’s easy to use. The satellite navigation system featuring the high performance DVD system uses a combination of voice guidance and map displays to help you find the shortest and fastest way to your destination.

Now, those long journeys won’t be so boring while you are in the rear passenger seats of the XC60. There are dual DVD players and dual 7-inch screens smartly integrated in the front head restraints.

The safety features in the Volvo XC60 are more than you can keep a tab on. Some of the most amazing safety features included in the SUV are Adaptive cruise control with distance alert, Driver Alert Control, Lane Departure Warning, DSTC anti-skid system, ABS with Hydraulic Brake Assist and Ready Alert Brakes, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, remote control central locking system, lockable wheel bolts and a number of child safety equipment centrally operated child safety lock.
