Review

The Peugeot 307 sells itself into a specific consumer lifestylepracticality, style, and extra space is all promised in this vehicle. All these features lead to an answered need for its target market, particularly for families in need of daily transport for their children. The 307 also promises families the right safety, ample room for each member, and a diverse engine range.

Plus the offered prices are usually reasonable and distribute your investments wisely.

The Peugeot 307 comes with two petrol and three diesel options. The 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines deliver a peppy performance but don’t have the same refinement as the others. The 1.6-litre, however, promises better fuel economy and performance. The 2.0-litre diesel engine comes either at 110 or 90- bhp, which both are fun to drive and are frugal in terms of fuel economy. The 2.0-litre unit at 136bhp also comes highly recommended.

All of these diesel units are great features of the Peugeot 307’s family car concept.

Safety is the prority of the 307, as seen in its rigid body, additional airbags, and electronic gizmos. A solid, easy, and safe drive is promised to parents, removing any worries about the car being too fast or dangerous for young children.

Comfort is provided for through the Peugeot 307’s two additional seats. Legroom and shoulder room is also generous both up front and at the back. The interior design has a nice light and airy finish thanks to the large panoramic glass roof.

Smaller items can be stored in the adequate number of cubby holes; there’s even an air conditioned glovebox if in need of cool storage.

The driving position can easily be adjusted and you’ll have no problems settling comfortably into the right position. The switches and buttons are within easy reach from the driver’s seat, but only smaller feet rest comfortably on the pedals.

Safety is also promised with the car’s six airbags and the 307’s four-star Euro NCAP rating. Only the D-Turbo and XSI models include deadlocks and a remote control central locking system.

But the cost of safety comes with the sacrifice of proper handling. Steering is too light and the 307 can be a challenge to park. The thick rear pillars also tend to limit the driver’s visibility while driving and parking.

Thankfully the suspension is able to absorb bumps but it is unable to roll when turning into corners.

The cabin seats provide adequate support but tend to feel uncomfortable next to its rivals. Only small children will feel comfortable on the 307’s two extra seats. The extra seats also limit luggage space for the boot. Thankfully the rear seats can be folded or removed in case you need more space.

The second row can also be expanded to provide three seats.

The Peugeot 307 stands out in the market thanks to its decent engine range, safety features, and other family carrier friendly features. Unfortunately its other features can make driving and parking a challenge even on regular days. You’ll have to really consider how much you’re willing to sacrifice and get used to when driving the 307.
