Review

Launched during the same time as the Toyota Aygo and Citroen C1, the Peugeot 107 seems nearly identical to its sister vehicles. The current Peugeot 107 sports several improvements from the previous model. Anyone who was impressed by the Peugeot 107’s previous life will welcome the revised version and its almost mechanically identical features.

The newly improved Peugeot 107 features a more aggressive front bumper, a rear door that’s neatly integrated to its five doors, and gaping grille instead of a smiley mouth at the front. At the same time, the current 107 retains its classic basic shape that is not just aesthetically appealing to the eye but also timeless in significance.

Previously the five-door and three-door 107 Urban came with the same 998cc engine at 68bhp; this time around the ECU has improved its economy at 62.8mpg and emits CO2 at 103g/km. The five-speed auto version’s CO2 emissions are at 106g/km and 61.4mpg. In terms of performance, the engine can arrive at 62mph after 14.2 seconds and after 14.9 for the auto. Expect a top speed of 100mph; this may not be the fastest among the lot but it does the daily job of every day journeys.

Light steering and the impressive turning circle allows for easier parking. Winding through traffic is also made easier by these features.

The vehicle boasts of plenty grip, agility with minimal body roll, and a stability that the 107’s short overhangs and small size. Light steering makes challenging tasks such as parallel parking easier to execute.

The interior offers more than enough space despite being a small car, even allowing for four tall individuals to ride comfortably without any complaints. In places where corners are typically cut, they aren’t in the Peugeot 107 so the inside becomes more spacious than it appears from the outside. The interior design offers a distinct look over all the others and includes handy features such as a pod-like speedometer and a user-friendly stereo.

Steering can readily be adjusted according to height and instruments are attached on the steering column.

Expect some wind noise when going quickly into motorways and A-roads. The engine would work better at minimizing noise had it more refinement to remedy the situation.

The interior is small, as previous users would expect, but it still holds the same appeal as the original. Unfortunately there’s not much of an upgrade at the boot as it remains just as small at 139 litres, but it can expand to 751 litres when the seats are folded.

The Peugeot 107 is offered in two trims: the Urban Lite and Sport XS. The former is oriented towards drivers who need more value, while the XS is geared to the equipment hungry market. Initially the 107 only came with the Urban Trim, which only offered the basic locking filler cap, dash button, and four airbags. Then came the Urban Move, a trim that offers comprehensive equipment: metallic paint, air conditioning, silver trim, and even a rev counter.

The Access Trim is also included in the range, and offers basic equipment such as four airbags, power steering, split and fold rear seats, and a CD stereo.
