Used Chevrolet Equinox Ontario

The Chevrolet Equinox – the very first Chevrolet crossover SUV introduced in 2004, has grown to become one of Canada’s favourite compact sized SUVs.

The debut of the Equinox was exciting to new car buyers, and later used SUV Ontario customers, as it`s compact size offered all the benefits of a car and an SUV, offering good fuel economy while providing roominess and comfort.

The Equinox is made in Ingersoll, Ontario, and in it’s first four production years (2004-2008) it was equipped with a 3.4L V6 engine. Afterwards, an optional 3.6L V6 engine was offered in the Sport version.

First Generation Equinox (2005-2009)

The first generation of the Chevy Equinox came with a standard 3.4L V6 engine, Front Wheel Drive, and customers had the option to upgrade to the All Wheel Drive Package. The sleek styling and comfortable drive attracted customers, and they sold very well immediately. The first generation was built the same as the Pontiac Torrent, and both vehicles were slightly larger than the competing Saturn Vue.

The Torrent/Equinox shared a 2.8 Metre wheelbase, which was 15cm longer than the Vue.

The longer wheelbase meant that the rear suspension would be further back in the vehicle, not dipping into precious cabin space for the rear passengers. Shorter vehicles tend to have less space in the rear due to this reason, and GM planned it well. The rear seats are also on a track, which means they have up to 8 inches of back-and-forth moving space.

You can choose to increase leg room, or get close to the front passengers to optimize cargo space in the trunk.

Instead of simply having the rear strut towers consume space in the rear cargo area, Chevrolet has designed the top of the strut in such a way that they are flat, and can be used to hold a sturdy shelf across the width of the trunk, essentially creating a second story of storage space. The Equinox is adaptable, useful, comfortable, and well thought out.

‘Sport’ Version

In 2008, GM added an optional 3.6L V6 engine that was sport-tuned and provided additional horsepower and torque.

3.4L Engine: 3.6L Engine:

185 HP 264 HP

210 FT-LB Torque 250 FT-LB Torque

In addition to the 40% increase in power, the Equinox Sport provided Ontario Used Car customers with an upgraded styling package: 18 Alloy Wheels, a 6-speed automatic transmission, FWD or AWD configurations, and sport inspired body panels. The Ontario used SUV looked more aggressive and powerful, proving to be worthy of it’s ‘sport’ name.

The new and powerful engine was produced in the USA, and offered sport-loving customers an excellent combination of power, control, and thrill. The sport version carried over all of the useful interior features, including adjustable rear seats, cargo-area double decker shelf, and more.

‘LTZ’ Debut

The LTZ trimline was introduced in the first generation Chevy Equinox, and it offered several standard features previously unavailable to the SUV. Leather seat inserts, heated front seats, special chrome-clad 17 inch wheels, curtain side airbags, a Pioneer audio system with CD changer and MP3 CD Capability, chrome door handles and luggage rack side rails.

The LTZ version is equipped wth the then-new 3.6L sport engine made in the USA.

Team Canada Edition

The Team Canada edition of the Chevrolet Equinox was offered for the 2009 model year only in Canada, in support of the 2010 Winter Olympic games in Whistler, British Columbia.

The Team Canada edition Equinox offered upgraded chrome-clad wheels, an enhanced sound system, custom badging, and a Sunroof.

This special edition equinox was popular among Canadian Olympic fans who wanted to show their support for the Canadian team.

Second generation (2010–Present)

The second generation of Chev Equinox came in 2010 and offered a completely redesigned 2.4L straight-4 cylinder. The new engine provided better fuel economy and very similar performance. It achieved 7L/100KM Highway and 11L/100KM City, while providing 182 HP and 172 LB-FT of Torque.

The freshly redesigned Equinox was one of GM’s first post-bankruptcy vehicles, and it was designed to ‘wow’ the eagerly waiting public.

Between 2009 and 2010, sales in the USA jumped 74% when the new model was introduced, and in 2011 almost 200,000 units were sold, compared to 86,000 in 2009. The giant sales leap has also taken effect in the sales of Used Chevrolet Equinox Ontario, and customers are enjoying the increased fuel economy, modern design, and sporty performance.

How Did The Equinox Get So Popular?

Customers across Ontario have been demanding a compact, yet roomy, useful, efficient SUV for years. The late 90s were characterized by large, bulky SUV’s that were shaped by boxes, while the new consumers in the early 2000’s wanted a change. The Chevrolet Equinox provided Ontario Used SUV customers with an alternative to the old style.

Something fresh and exciting was created, and the public responded very well!

The Equinox has a loyal customer base, and it’s owners can be found at almost every mall parking lot across the province. It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t know what the Equinox is, and that in itself shows just how popular it has become among the local crowd in our province. 2013 marks the 8th year since the Equinox was unveiled, and even the first few units produced are still running strong on the roads all over Canada.

All kinds of drivers find the Equinox useful: families, commuters, city or country dwellers, occasional drivers, and beach go-ers alike. The Equinox is truly a useful vehicle that meets the needs of a huge number of Ontario drivers. If you haven’t driven the Equinox yet, we encourage you to come to Wilson’s for a no obligation test drive today!

Benefits of Owning a Chev Equinox

Along with being appealing, efficient, and overall desirable, the Equinox has so much practical value. For Equinox SUV’s built for the 2007 model year and newer, GM covers them with a 5 year or 160,000km powertrain warranty, whichever comes first. This is astounding, and shows that GM believes in the car’s quality and is willing to back that up with numbers.

Also, on the 2007+ Equinox, GM backs the vehicle with a 7 year / 160,000km rust perforation warranty, which means that if rust breaks through the paint and becomes visible, the carmaker will repair or replace that panel free of charge. Roadside assistance is also available for 5 years or 160,000km, meaning you won’t be left at the side of the road in the unlikely event that this SUV breaks down.

While the Equinox appeals to young drivers and families, it is also extremely practical for the 50+ crowd, with it’s easy-to-use design and features. For example, the simple icons on the touch-screen in the new Equinox make it easy for anyone to learn how to use it, and the use of rear vision camera helps less mobile drivers safely reverse without having to strain themselves turning around.

Customer reviews praise the long-haul trip comfort that the Ontario Used Chevrolet Equinox provides. Large headrests, easily adjustable seats (with telescopic/tilt steering) makes it a breeze to get comfortable quickly. The adjustable rear seats allow for more or less rear legroom when needed (or cargo space in trunk), and the headroom is more than enough for even tall passengers.

On road tests, many reviewers found that this vehicle would be excellent on a trip down to sunny Florida, which would take approximately 20-24 hours without stopping.
