The first Toyota Supraappeared in Japan in 1978, and continued until 2002, the car undergoing three major culminating in the Mk IV twin turbo Supra of 1993 –

The Mark IV Toyota Supra was with two different engine a naturally aspirated 2JZ-GE, 3.0 straight 6 with 220 horsepower and 210 of torque, and a 2JZ-GTE 3.0 litre turbocharged straight 6 with 320 and 315 ft/lbs of torque.

For many, of the twin turbo Toyota ‘s attraction comes the easily upgraded power 450 – 500 horsepower can be had out of the stock with a free flowing and exhaust system coupled an aftermarket boost controller.

The MKIV Supra’s turbochargers in a sequential format where, at all of the exhaust gasses are routed to the turbine for reduced lag. results in increased boost and torque as low as 1800 rpm. 4000 rpm, the exhaust are routed to the second turbine for a mode, although none of the output is used by the engine at point.

Around 4500 the second turbo’s output is to the intake air, and both operate in parallel. The sequential of the Toyota Supra‘s allow for improved low-end

The Mark IV Toyota Supra, no featherweight, was extensively lightened to the previous generation. The use of aluminium for the targa top, front oil pan, and upper A-arms As did dished out head bolts, a steering wheel, plastic cover, and a gas injected rear

Despite having more such as dual airbags, control. larger brakes, wheels, and larger tires, the MK IV was at least 45 kgs (100 lbs) than the outgoing model.

review by AJI:

The MKiv Supra saw an extensive weight diet over the previous of this model. At a time Supercars were being left right and centre, decided to get in on the act with the MKiv. had already realeased the NSX and Nissan the Skyline and the 300ZX, and with and its choices of British, Italian and high performance cars the was fitted with a twin setup and the export version hit the with 326bhp as standard.

The export version of the Supra was the specification version of the Supra, is strange as the Japanese home versions are usually this So therefore this saw the export fitted with stronger turbos, bigger brakes, fuel injectors, glass full leather interior, and more ‘toys’. They all twin turbos and came in 6-speed manual or 4-speed

The export MKiv was generally engineered, it therefore produces a car can easily be tuned to the 450-500bhp without the need to upgrade internal parts. The getrag gearbox is a good strong and the 6-cylinder engine is a racey with plenty of torque.

The Supras were tested and a 4.9sec time to get to 60mph. The top of the export versions is 180mph, and 6th if it were allowed would in a top speed of 196mph if the car had the power to get

The Japanese home market of the Supra came with a tick-box on the specification lists. But the two models were the RZ (the turbo) or the SZ (the normal version). Later in the production the GZ was released which was basically an RZ all the extras ticked.

And later still the Japanese market version went a facelift giving it the bigger and other details which a modification to the front bumper.

The between the J-spec and the export has some considerably differences.

The were ceramic as opposed to the fuel injectors were and although the torque figure was very coparable to the export the bhp figure was slightly down.

The J-specs had a top speed of 170mph due to the lower bhp figure. And, got to 60mph in 5.1sec. The automatic always had slightly worse figures due to the power loss the transmission, but the auto box is still one of the best on the market.

The Euro-spec of the export model saw the inclusion of a vent to aid cooling to cylinders 3 and 6, the home market and US export never had a bonnet vent. home market Supras with no rear spoiler, is down to the tick-boxes on the spec.
