Toyota Soarer

Produced from 1991 to 2000 is the 3rd generation or the 30 series of the Toyota Soarer which are eligible for import to Australia. The Toyota Soarer 30 series has the same body, style and components as the US Lexus SC 300/400 but with different interior features, power train configurations and other performance enhancements. The Toyota Soarer has always been seen as an advanced luxury coupe and the 30 series models do not disappoint with their electric options, digital dash, integrated car systems controlled via an in-dash Electro Multi Vision (EMV) TV/touchscreen, and CD rom navigation system similar to the GPS systems today.

The 30 series Toyota Soarers were available with a 4-speed automatic transmission with the exception of a 5-speed manual only available with the JZZ30 turbo charged models, however all models had the Torsen torque-sensing differential as an option. The Toyota Soarer only received minor cosmetic changes to the rear lights and front grille from their introduction through to their production end in 2000.

The 30 series Toyota Soarer have the following lineup:

JZZ30 (1991 – 2000) – 2.5L 6 cylinder twin/single turbo sports car with the same chassis as the MKIV Toyota Supra. Both cars suspension, brakes, drive trains and engine parts are interchangeable. The UZZ30 was the only model sold continuously from the introduction of the 30 series to the end of its production and is the only model to have the option of a 5-speed manual transmission.

The JZZ30 is available in two different equipment grades, the standard GT-T with the usual luxury extras such as climate control, electric mirrors etc and the GT-TL or L package which adds electric seats, wood trim, cruise control and Toyota#39;s TEMS electronic damper adjustment as standard. In 1996 the JZZ30 received VVTi, a single more efficient turbo producing the same power output but with greater low-end torque giving better fuel economy along with minor cosmetic and safety changes.

JZZ31 (1994 – 2000) – 3.0L 6 cylinder (equivalent to the US SC300) known as the new base model when it was introduced in 1994, the JZZ31 was upgraded in 1997 with VVTi increasing its output and improving fuel economy

UZZ30 (1991 – 1993) – 4.0L 8 cylinder base model with coil spring suspension (equivalent to the US SC400). This is the base model of the other two upgraded luxury models below. All of the V8s produced slightly less power and torque than the turbocharged JZZ30 models, however they are renowned for their smoothness and refinement.

UZZ31 (1991 – 1997) – 4.0L 8 cylinder with driver adjustable air suspension and EMV TV/touchscreen systems are the Luxury GT versions of the 30 series along with the UZZ32 models below due to having substantially more features than the models listed above. The EMV has the capability of a TV, CD rom navigation, diagnostics, car computer, reversing camera, climate control, a 7-speaker balanced-signal audio system with subwoofer and a 12-disk CD stacker with digital signal processing.

The  air suspension on this model two settings for ride height and damper stiffness. This model and UZZ32 bellow received a minor update in 1995 improving responsiveness and slightly increasing power output, however none of the V8#39;s ever received VVTi.

UZZ32 (1991 – 1996) – 4.0L 8 cylinder with active suspension, four wheel steering and EMV TV/touchscreen system is the top of the range model. The UZZ32 is equivalent to the UZZ31 above however this version received four wheel steering and a complex hydraulic computer-controlled active suspension system, replacing the conventional springs and anit-roll bars in favour of hydraulic struts controlled by sensors that detect cornering, acceleration and braking forces.

This made for an extremely smooth ride with no body roll. These vehicles were expensive to produce and attract high prices at auction as they are now seen as a collectable for the motoring enthusiasts as only 873 were made.
