Toyota IQ

Breaks New Ground #8211; Introduction of the iQ

Throughout the years Toyota has introduced many revolutionary and innovative concept cars. One example of these is the Toyota iQ, which has evolved from concept to the showroom. What makes the iQ so different is that it can carry up to four passengers comfortably.

Yet, the iQ is smaller than the automaker#8217;s Yaris subcompact and is highly comparable to the smart fortwo car in proportions.

Launched as a city car at the Geneva Auto Show, the major sales and promotional effort began in Japan. It was subsequently awarded the Japanese Car of the Year. Car magazine called the iQ the best concept car of 2007.

The iQ was conceived and designed at the Toyota European Design and Development studio in Nice, France.

As reported by Toyota, the i stands for #8220;individuality#8221; #8220;innovation#8221; and #8220;intelligence#8221;, while the Q represents #8220;quality#8221; and points to the iQ#8217;s #8220;cubic#8221; shape.

Now Toyota is bringing the iQ microcar to the US, but it’s attaching the Scion brand on it first. It’s an intelligent move, and placing the world’s tiniest four-seater in the Scion lineup makes a large amount of sense.

Every aspect regarding the Toyota iQ was created to take advantage of interior space. From the shape of the dashboard to the placement of the vehicle#8217;s gas tank, the iQ, much like the Fiat 500 appears much bigger than it is.

The Toyota Scion iQ is equipped with many standard and passive safety features. You will find ten airbags altogether, including a rear drape to protect the heads of rear seat passengers that are in close proximity to the rear window. Knee safety bags for both the driver and front passenger, and a driver#8217;s seat cushion airbag are particularly notable safety enhancements. Active safety measures include ABS, EBD, traction control, brake assist, and stability control all as standard equipment.

Bluetooth and HD Radio technology is standard equipment.

The micro-subcompact Toyota Scion iQ is sensible transportation that doesn’t exclude attractive design or creature features. The Toyota iQ provides Toyota/Scion with a strong challenger in the microcar race.

The American edition of the Toyota iQ won’t be the available in the 55.9-mpg 1.0-liter three-cylinder gas or the 1.4-liter turbodiesel engines available in Europe. Even so, Toyota states the iQ will provide much better mileage than Daimler#8217;s smart fortwo. The Toyota iQ is approximately 300 pounds heavier than a smart fortwo.

The iQ delivers considerably more space in the rear, which consists of two seats if you prefer or a usable cargo shelf if you don#8217;t need them. The only apparent variance with the Scion iQ with the Toyota iQ in Europe, is the Scion#8217;s increased length. There#8217;s almost four extra inches tacked on to the bumpers.

The wheelbase, width, and height dimensions remain the same.
