SMART Crossblade

Reduce to the max #45; to reduce to the maximum was the slogan of Smart at the introduction of the City coupe in 1997. Today#44; this slogan again takes all its direction with Crossblade. One#45;third roadster#44; one#45;third convertible#44; one#45;third go#45;kart#44; it is the ideal accessory to make oneself noticed.

What characterizes the Crossblade above all#44; is that it does not have a door#44; not a windshield and not a roof. It is a small change#45;wind#44; which takes the place of the windshield. Unfortunately#44; this last plays an only aesthetic role to the point to of having the feeling to roll like a motorbike but without a helmet. The Crossblade adopts front and rear body panels which give it a squat look#44; accentuated by its rims of 16 inches and its low size tires.

Scram safety rods act as doors. In the interior#44; one finds the bare minimum of which#44; a car radio of good quality comes standard. The preparing is damp#45;proof#44; other wise said#44; impermeable.

To note#44; that four holes were envisaged in the floor to evacuate water in a possible downpour. Built on the base of the Smart Cabrio#44; the Crossblade recuperates the bottom part of the trunk#44; in which the arrangement for the bars is encrusted with the roof of the convertible#44; which here is useless. However#44; it offers a reasonable loading capacity.

Smart also proposes a cover which completely covers the small beast and once folded can slip behind the passenger seat.

Motorization: NICE UP TO 50 KM/H

The first turns of wheel procure a certain pleasure#58; hair blowing in the wind and a panoramic view guaranteed. Above the rear wheels#44; one finds the famous three#45;cylinder turbo of the mark but for the occasion has gained nine horsepower. It develops from now on 70 bhp.

The gearbox remains the same#44; the sequential automatic. Its all#45;automatic mode is proscribed because the response times waste any approval because it is too much long. Then when in sequential mode#44; when one passes through the gears at good rpms#44; one really starts to find pleasure.

On the road: NICE UP TO 50 KM/H

However#44; the Crossblade has its limits.

Up to 50 km/h#44; one still has the possibility of admiring the landscape#44; but beyond it no longer the question of playing the tourist and from 80; the noise#44; the draughts and the wind become unbearable. But with a helmet#44; one should have the means of having fun even more so as the Crossblade is well fixed on the road.

The sense of rolling is non#45;existent#44; and thanks to its broad tires#44; its very firm damping and its rather precise steering#44; it has what it take to produce strong sensations. Precisely on this subject#44; the emotions are more stifling when it relates to the price#58; 25 116 euros is 165 000 francs or two smart cabrios.

As much to say that Smart rather aims for the car park at the side of a helicopter#45; of the Yacht in the harbour of Saint#45;Tropez rather than the municipal car park. It is undoubtedly the reason for which only 2000 models will be produced in the world.
