Volvo 850 (1994)

New Car Review 1994 VOLVO 850 TURBOCHARGED SPORTSWAGON by: BILL RUSS For over a quarter of a century Volvo has developed a reputation of strong, safe, solid, boxy sedans and station wagons. These traditional works of fine Swedish Steel were configured with the engine in front and the drive wheels in back, and were designed to provide roomy, reliable transportation. Late in 1992 a dramatic change took place at Volvo. It launched its all-new 850 sedan! This newcomer was not only smaller and sportier than its brethren, but its drive wheels were in front and it was powered by a new five-cylinder transverse-mounted engine. Despite these changes, the 850 was still unmistakably Volvo as far as ...

Volvo 850 R Car Reviews | NRMA Motoring & Services

Volvo 850 R Car Review Author: NRMA Motoring Date: 1 October 1996 Extensively modified to provide exhilarating performance, the turbocharged 850 R is a Volvo for the enthusiast, rather than the type of owner who is primarily concerned about maximising ease of driving and comfort. In manual form (as tested) particularly, the 850 R responds best to a more aggressive driving style. Drivers need to keep the engine in the right rev range, both for smooth starts and for best performance. The manual 850 R is not for drivers who like to potter around in the higher gears. Comfort in the 850 R is compromised in the quest for sports car handling, with the low profile tyres, firmer springs and lowered ...

Hard Drive: Volvo 850

A Real Hauler Road Test: 1996 Volvo 850 GLT Wagon When it’s one of those days when everybody around you is driving as if they’re in an arcade game, it’s reassuring to have around you a solid vehicle that’s been engineered with safety in mind. But the Volvo 850 GLT wagon is much more than that; it can win the game, too. You can be excused for thinking, Volvo? After all, fun isn’t a word we’ve always associated with the stolid Swede; in my New England youth, Volvos were the dowdy choice of overprotective parents. No more; the folks in Linkoping have discovered a playful streak, and you’re the beneficiary. Start with the interior. At first, it’s ...

Volvo 850 Timing Belt and Water Pump Replacement | Happy Wrenching

Volvo 850 Timing Belt and Water Pump Replacement The 850 has proven to be one of Volvo’s most safest and reliable cars. There are many 850’s still on the road today that have well over 200 thousand miles on the odometer. Of course maintenance is the key to a car’s long life and changing the timing belt is one task that you eventually will have to perform. This guide will go through the timing belt removal and installation procedure. Because of the high mileage on this car, I will also replace the idler roller, tensioner pulley roller, and the water pump. If, during an inspection, the water pump does not make any unusual noises when rotated and does not have any coolant ...

Renderings of the 2015 Ford Mustang released | Digital Trends

New Mustang same as the old Mustang: renderings of the 2015 model are released Hmm. I feel like I’ve seen that Mustang before. Oh, that’s right. In my local Ford showroom. Mustang fanatics might just have pulled back the curtain on one of the most hotly anticipated models in a while: the 2015 Mustang. The results are, surprisingly, disappointing. The images come from the forum Mustang6G. and are supposedly based on the actual CAD drawing of the upcoming car. I can just picture sweaty forum dwellers sorting through dumpsters outside of Ford searching for anything related to the new Mustang. The renderings – if not my mental picture – are believable because they match up pretty ...

History Volvo 850

History Volvo 850 Believe it or not: the roots of the Volvo 850 are back in the 70#8242;s when the oil crisis reaches its top. Volvo plans a long-term project which would lead to a new car in the early 90#8242;s. The car should be dynamic, economic and should contain all new features a modern driver would expect from a car. Other manufacturers used frontwheeldrive a lot more than before (mainly because buyers want a smaller car which was bigger on the inside), so the new car should also have frontwheeldrive. With the new project not only a new car should be developed, but also new production methods, new material and new plants. The new project, started in 1978, was called the Galaxy Project. ...

Cars we’re thankful we no longer own — 1994 Volvo 850 – Autoweek

Harsh, hot 1994 Volvo 850 Shopping for a NEW or used vehicle? Click here to start your search. One car I’m thankful I no longer own is the 1994 Volvo 850 sedan. Not a bad car, mind you, as these were quite well-regarded back in the day, having dominated not only the British Touring Car Championship with Rickard Rydell at the wheel, but also the school run championship. Equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-five, they got the job done, and in turbo form, they were pretty fast. Not quick, but fast on the interstates. Mine didn’t come with a turbo, and it didn’t come with Rickard Rydell. And actually there were a couple things that made owning it a rather harsh experience. First, ...

1994 Volvo 850 Reviews – Carsurvey.org

1994 Volvo 850 Wagon 2.3 turbo from North America Black door guards have come off on one side recently. Seats have very slight tear (black leather). Paint is fading (nothing unusual for its age). Rattles in the dashboard from time to time. Oil lifter is somewhat loud while the car is warming up (I have heard this is a very normal issue). Odometer was not working when we purchased the vehicle, in process of fixing (also a very common problem in this vehicle). Headlight wipers don#039;t work (normally a 200-300 dollar fix, just left it alone and is another common trait for these guys). Currently taking it in for a repair. Something to do with the PVC or PCV valve system. Quoted at $500 ...
