Suzuki SX4 SZ5 (4×4) 1.6 Petrol 2011

Very capable and economical car (40mpg+), being 2wd normally and 4wd when required (at a flick of a button). Went skiing early 2012 in France and 4wd SX4s were extremely popular amongst the locals. It had no problems with traction (even without snow chains), but steep hills needed a heavy right foot to get it up to speed. I heard the diesel SX4 has a suspect gearbox so plumped with the petrol and have not regretted it.

Adding front and rear parking sensors are sensible, but adding an ipod dock can impeed on the passengers right knee. Great car and fun too!

Suzuki SX4 1.9 4Grip 2009

This version we purchased, 1.9 DDIS 4grip, has been the best car we have ever had. We were sick of not being able to get out of our drive on a hill in bad weather, and the 4grip has been a God send, we have not had any problems at all even in the deep snow and ice of December 2010.

We find it very enconomical to run, although diesel price is not favourable right now. It has the all power any one would need, very nippy around town, and comfortable on the long runs. But we have found that the standard boot space with seats down is quite poor, best option would be if the rear seats were removable altogether or be able to lay completely flat.

We are thinking of changing for another one right now, but are disappointed that the 1.9 DDIS diesel engine is not being produced any more. Comparing the other FWD cars on the market, this is one of the best options for low insurance and road tax.

I’ve had a Suzuki SX4 Grip since February 2011 and I love it, it’s one of the best cars I’ve ever had. Not tested out the 4×4 bit yet but if we have a winter here like we did last year then it will certainly be handy. The engine is very quiet, hardly notice it at all and there’s plenty of height inside, I’m 5’8 tall. It’s very easy to manoeuvre and performance overall is brilliant – Christine Brown from Mid-Lothian (Edinburghshire)

Had my 4 grip new 09 and it’s a great motor, although my wife finds the gears a little sticky. This car is at its best with its snow tyres on 4wd selected and going anywhere you want in snow. In summer with ordinary tyres it’s a great cruiser but a little heavy on diesel at higher speeds, but all in all a super motor – David Harvey from Yorkshire
