SX4

The Suzuki SX4 is a product of Japan’s fourth largest car maker, which came on the market from the year 2006. It is a modern vehicle which adopts all the necessary basic technological features for sound driving, safety and comfortable driving. It is a sub compact car which is manufactured by Suzuki and is marketed by both Suzuki and Fiat. Fiat marketed the SX4 as the Sedici while Suzuki took the name SX4.

The SX4 was originally launched onto the market as a 5-door hatch and was marketed as the SX4 crossover. Other name tags that have been placed on the vehicle in the various markets it has been marketed in includes Maruti Suzuki SX4, Suzuki Liana and the Suzuki Neo Baleno.

The SX4 comes after the Suzuki Aerio/ Liana and has the option of two body styles; which are the 5-soor hatchback and the 4-door sedan. Engine options offered in the many various markets are the 1.6 L, 2.0L, 1.6 Turbodiesel, 1.9 turbodiesel, 2.0 turbodiesel which run on the option of the 5-speed manual transmission, 4-speed automatic, the 6-speed manual transmission or the 6-speed CVT. Currently three models are on offer to the local South African market by Suzuki South Africa.

These are the 2.0 MT, the 2.0 CVT and the 2.0 AWD MT.

The base model – the 2.0 MT runs on a 2.0 L engine which can handle a top speed of 186km from the maximum power of 112kW at 6200 rpm and maximum torque of 190Nm at 4000 rpm. The base model records a carbon emission ratio of 170g/km and the engine makes use of 4 cylinders and comes as a front wheel drive. The fuel tank capacity of the Suzuki SX4 is 50 liters which helps the vehicle to transcend over a fuel range of 685km.

The base model records a combined fuel consumption ratio of 7.3 L per 100km, and the fuel supply of the model uses the multipoint injection system. The base model makes use of a manual gearbox and comes with the latest technology which provides all the necessary luxury and comfort.

The advanced technology that features on the base model includes the Keyless Go, the onboard computer and the Multi-function computer. Easy handling and convenience comes in the form of the power steering, the electric windows mirrors, the central locking and the cruise control for easy driving on long drives. Safety and security on the car is provided in such forms as the 6 airbags, alarm and engine immobilizer, which all come standard on the SX4.

Comfort luxury can be realized from the aircon, and the multi-function steering for easy control of various functions in the car. The base model takes on the stylish alloy wheels as a definition of its classic exterior appeal and the high level brake light which also serves as a safety feature on the vehicle. Other notable safety features that come standard on the SX4 base model are the curtain airbags, the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution system and the Brake Assist.

The SX4 provides more boot space than the Alto and the Swift. Instead of the 533 L on the Alto, the SX4 comes with the provision of 992 L of boot space for luggage. The Gross Weight of the SX4 is 1720kg and it takes on a ground clearance of 175mm. Its kerb weight is 1245kg for the base 2.0 model. The 2.0 CVT model records a combined fuel consumption of 7.6 L per 100km and the engine makes use of an automatic transmission.

One other variation with the base model is the top speed of 184km/hr for the CVT model instead of the 186km/hr for the base model.

The front suspension of the SX4 2.0 CVT features the MacPherson struts with coil springs on the front and the torsion beam and coil spring on the rear. The braking system of the CVT is defined by discs both on the front and rear. The upper trim model – the Suzuki SX4 2.0 4×4 records a similar average fuel consumption of 7.6 L per 100km as the CVT model.

The 50 L fuel tank of the 4×4 model is capable of a fuel range of 658km. Additional features notable on the vehicle are the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and the Anti-Skid Control (ASC).

The vehicle comes with warranty of 3 year/100,000km and a service plan of 6 year/ 90,000km, with the service interval being set at the standard 15,000km.
