SUV Showdown: Infiniti FX50 Vs Grand Cherokee SRT8, 3

It#8217;s time to move on ridiculous hoonage back to the world (for now). the canyons and the empty streets of City came miles of straight highway.

Tim: I asked to drive cross-country in the FX, do it in a heartbeat. The seats are heated  and the nav/audio is top-notch and the 7-speed gives a nice, tall that#8217;ll cruise at 90 and still high-teens MPG. Not bad.

A complaint: even with out of #8220;Sport#8221; mode, the ride has an sharpness, alerting you to every imperfection in the pavement.

Rob: its incredible power-on-demand makes the the preferred highway fighter in my I actually prefer the FX for distance when taking comfort consideration. The Infiniti#8217;s seats not offer more padding the Jeep, but Infiniti has put that in the right places. And befitting its higher price the Japanese has more adjustments including seat heaters and coolers as the Jeep is only able to your buns warm.

Other features play in the favor, including one of the best systems in the business, and the trippiest computer performance monitor The FX marvels with cameras on side, providing a top-down while parked that is cool.

Tim: The top-down view is a cool gimmick, but it was detailed enough for me. Anything than about 10 inches, or a partial shadow on it was impossible to I#8217;ll use my eyes and the mirrors,

I was kind #8220;meh#8221; on the Jeep#8217;s AV but I think that had more to do my refusal to RTFM and my limited with it. Unfortunately, I have a real complaint: the display in direct sunlight, particularly if got polarized shades on. The FX#8217;s is recessed in the dash, so it#8217;s of an issue.

Again, total agreement on the I was shocked and dismayed at the lack of support or adjustability on the Jeep#8217;s If you#8217;re gonna make seats for the special go-fast the least you could do is match the set from my dad#8217;s #8217;88 GT.

Most luxury interior fail to impress me, but the cooled in the FX, well, I#8217;d gladly pay for those.

And this is where the difference between them starts to show. The Jeep about $49k and the Infiniti for about $63k. It seems $15 gets you a vehicle where thought the whole thing while the Jeep feels a bit like a check list. Big Check.

Big stereo? Check. seats with that stuff you kids think is Check.

But to be clear, it#8217;s not like the is really deficient as a vehicle, just that the Infiniti is . I guess the next question is it#8217;s $15k better.

chimes in: It  is $15,000 better a real world standpoint. The are more comfortable, the audio is better, it gets better mileage, it carves canyons a (big …) knife, and it has than ample power.

The FX50s is a daily-driving luxury The Jeep is a muscle car that at the Big N#8217; Tall store. It is a to drive, even more fun the Infiniti in short bursts. the Infiniti is a complete package, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is almost all engine.

I am not saying a bad thing #8211; in fact great to see a car company build a like that, I just I could be happier for a longer of time with the Infiniti.

Tim: Fine, I#8217;m not to argue that you#8217;re $15k worth of difference the Jeep and the Infiniti. But I#8217;m not you could get me to pay the difference. The Jeep#8217;s got room, more utility and faster 90% of the time.

For 15 large, you get a spare car to run the canyons better either of these. Besides, the are a plus for me, as I know I#8217;ll be to fix and maintain it for years to come. Not the with a luxury marque Infiniti.

I can see the FX making sense in a formal environment, one where the is simply too boorish. After we can#8217;t wear muscle everywhere . That said, the brand and  outré on the Infiniti might not fly with the country club set. again, the X6 and CLS are big sellers, so the styling be  that big a stumbling block.

Jeff: You#8217;ve just hit the on the head#8230;the Infiniti is the car you marry, but the is your mistress.

Tim: you put it that way, because to me the more the keeper. The Jeep#8217;s not the graceful or fashionable, but the FX is the classy who#8217;ll leave you broke in the The Jeep#8217;s a bit low-brow, but as long as we in a world with stop and on ramps, she#8217;ll never being fun.

Press for our final walk-through and a declaration of the winner here.

Yup, so it. In all seriousness, when it#8217;s to draw a clear winner the pair, it can#8217;t be done. The cheaper and faster in a straight but the Infiniti#8217;s the more refined

Both offer fun by the ton, in slightly different flavors. are certainly no losers here.

we go, we must give a shout out to #1 Best Friends of Hooniverse Novy and Luis Leaño. tagged along though ridiculous canyon driving and 40+ mph sandblasting winds to get us the footage you see They had a great eye for great to get, and then edited it all to something that#8217;s actually watching.

Just as important, easy to work with. thanks goes to Mark who took many of the pictures you see

Lastly, be sure to check out the set of all the shots from the trip, .
