Subaru XT

The Subaru XT (in other countries also than Alcyone or Alcyone XT admits) is a with standard all-wheel drive, which was offered in Germany from 1985 to 1991. The vehicle is technical with the Subaru L-series distorted closely and constructs to a large extent on identical vehicle parts.

The Subaru XT possesses a water-cooled 4-Zylinder OHV double-piston engine with 1800 cm capacity with turbocharger (engine code EA82T) and thus 100 KW. This engine was used (with and without Turbloader) also in the Subaru L-series. In other countries the vehicle was offered to double-piston engine with 2700 cm also without turbochargers or with a 6-Zylinder capacity, these variants were never sold however in Germany.

As transmission a 5-Gang-Schaltgetriebe and a 4-Gang-Automatikgetriebe were offered. In addition the vehicle possesses a permanten all-wheel drive.

The vehicle is equipped with a pneumatic pneumatic cushioning (as also partial with the Subaru L-series). Further it possesses ventilated disc brakes at the front and rear axle.

In addition as the further equipment the so-called Hill Holder is present. This is a back roll brake, which keeps the brake pressure upright when stopping at upward gradients also if the driver takes the foot of the brake pedal. The brake is only released with renewed starting again.

Rolling back the vehicle at upward gradients is avoided by this system and thus starting is facilitated.

The Subaru XT had electrically adjustable side mirrors, a headlight washer, Zentralverriegelung and electrical window lifters. An air conditioning system was optionally available.

As the further characteristic the Subaru XT – like all Subaru vehicles – possesses a large status display in the instrument panel, on which the most important ordinary procedures in and at the vehicle are indicated: open doors, eingeschaltenes (far from) light, act fourth all wheel and other one.

Like all Subaru Fahrzuege also the Subaru XT applies generally as reliable. The mechanics and electronics are very durably laid out. Wearing parts can be changed relatively fast and simply.

The body is notorious only for its strong rust susceptibility in the range of the rear wheel arches and the Schweller.

1992 brought Subaru again with the Subaru SVX a on the market. This was not comparable however with the XT. It had a substantially stronger motorizing, a far higher purchase price and thus also another target group.

The engine performance of 220 HP from a 3,3-Liter-Sechzylinder-Boxermotor was transferred exclusively by a four-course automatic transmission. From that altogether approx. 25,000 produced SVX arrived only about 850 copies at the German market.

In the film Cannonball run (into German: On the Highway is hell loosely) drove the Japanese team (with Jackie_Chan as actors) a Subaru XT.
