Verdict

Both Smarts fabulously chunky and expensive, provide masses of feelgood – until you drive like sports cars. We suspect that the new 101bhp fitted to a standard Roadster or would have more appeal.

Combining great an attractive price and individuality, the Roadster and Coupe would to have it all.

But there’s that sports car fans said has always been – in terms of performance, the duo easily cope with power.

It’s a fact that’s not on exclusive tuning company which has sent both to its famous automotive gym for a major Officially recognised by Mercedes, the will go on sale through dealers in April, fully by the manufacturer’s warranty.

With the carefully modified three-cylinder, engines that power Coupe and Roadster carry a 19bhp power increase to a new turbocharger, cooling system and management chip.

An eye-catching set of 17-inch alloy a Brabus radiator grille, skirts and body-coloured spoilers add a finish to the package. Inside, the results are less successful. The – although funky and with aluminium and leather – doesn’t share the attention to detail.

The engine note – by a sports exhaust and new silencer growls like a Porsche’s. But the Smart makes all the right it feels less special expected when it comes to acceleration. The gearchange is a little but it’s smooth and matches the adequate performance.

With a sprint time of 9.8 seconds and a top of 119mph (122mph for the more Coupe), there’s a feeling the car handle more power.

That said, the Brabus has had a big effect on the suspension and chassis Both Roadster and Coupe stiffly, but thankfully the modifications handling that is balanced, at the limit. However, keen who want to fling the Smart will be disappointed.

Quite the huge tyres offer far too grip, and the low-geared steering you’re always winding on to get through tight bends. We help feeling that the wheels and tyres, combined standard suspension, would be effective. The steering weights up in mid-corner, too, giving an feel, and the brake pedal is and difficult to get feedback from.

Smart has yet to announce a price for the and Coupe Brabus – but to pay £18,000-£20,000. To put that into you could buy a tidy used Boxster for the same money. But in favour, the newcomers do get close to the value of the German roadster.

From the outside it really have the expensive look of a and the brand badging to match.

though, these Smarts to have been sent to the gym to better, rather than get And keen drivers will be crying out for more power, grip, sharper steering and a gearchange.
