Skoda Fabia Review by Expert

We first saw a stunning model from Czech Republic based auto maker, Skoda Fabia in the year 2008. The car was full of unseen features, some real unique in hatchback segment. The looks of this stunning hatchback was inspired from the European style, making it real classy model on roads. The car was full o space and luxury hints at some prominent places specially interiors.

The car model was not able to make that great progress due to its overpricing in price sensitivity market like India.

Its almost 3 complete years now, and the Czech manufacturer has come back in action with some good magic tricks played on this capable model. The new avatar of Skoda Fabia comes not only with affordable price tag but also a more powerful engine. At present new Skoda Fabia is made available in three engine options for the Indian auto market.

These are, 1.2-litre, 75 bhp and 1.6-litre petrol engine and the diesel option is 1.2 TDI CR. The three variants provide by the company are named as Classic, Ambiente and Elegance. As per the new pricing policies followed by the company, Skoda Fabia comes for Rs 4.19 lakh for the base variant whereas the top end variant is availed at Rs.

6.30 lakhs (on-road, Delhi).

The hatchback is beautifully modified without compromising some necessary features like fog lamps, driver’s side airbag and rear AC vents. The major reduction in the price of new Skoda Fabia was made possible through the localization of the car. Among the features eliminated at this price comes the side airbag, powered mirrors, steering-mounted controls, a rear defogger and rear wash wipe even.

If the new Skoda Fabia is placed next to its earlier model, no prominent difference can be marked in its exterior. It will be rather difficult to trace the new version on road as it is almost similar to its ancestors already running on road. Among some changes comes the front bumper which is made little bigger which has improved its front view.

The Laura like front grille and elongated halogen headlamps will also give you the hint of refreshed look. Coming to the rear of the car, taillights are redesigned and that completes the exterior alterations. In true words, the classy looks of Skoda Fabia dint really need any makeup.

Stepping in the car will get you a beige-black ambience, pretty much common to many car models these days but still it gives the car an upmarket look. The seats are bathed in multi-textured fabric which flows with the interior colors. One prominent eye catchy feature in the car is a multifunction display which is used to keep an eye on the distance travelled, average speed, immediate fuel consumption, average fuel consumption, distance to empty, service interval, outside temperature, etc.

Talking about the personal space provided in Skoda Fabia to all the occupants is also admirable. The smart use of space is one thing Skoda leaves no stone unturned in. Both the Head and legroom is generous and it maintains a comfortable space for 5 adult occupants. The last passenger is also gifted with same comfort and personal space as rest 4.

The biggest piece of cake is offered through its engine option as the all new Skoda Fabia offers a range of it to choose from. The 3-cylinder, 1.2-litre petrol engine which is taken from famous Volkswagen Polo gives a top power of 75 bhp as against the 68 bhp and a torque of 110Nm. Coming to the 1.6 litre engine it gives a peak power of 105 bhp and top torque of 153Nm at 3800 rpm.

The Skoda Fabia diesel smokes out a maximum power of 75 bhp and beating torque of 180Nm at 2000 rpm.

Skoda Fabia Rivals

In the premium hatchback segment there are many potent competitors of Skoda Fabia, but one of them that falls reasonably near is Hyundai i20. The Korean car provides stiff challenge to beautiful Czech hatch in every aspect. The appearance of both the cars is impressive; at one side the cues and lines of Hyundai i20 are remarkable along with polished new front. While the uncomplicated yet comprehensive design of Skoda Fabia that speaks luxury is just adorable.

The interiors of Hyundai i20 are a bit dull against brighter seen in Fabia. Though Korean carmaker has tried its level best to keep things at very best, but could not match to the comfort and quality levels of Skoda. On the feature front, Hyundai i20 is just unbeatable as it comes loaded with numerous segment-first characteristics. But Fabia rules, when it comes to finish levels and solid feel of a proper European interiors.

On the engine performance part, both have the option of petrol and diesel motors and the two provide with decent power and torque output. The handling of Skoda Fabia is pretty refined and smooth compared to Hyundai i20. However, the engine of i20 is peppier than Fabia, and can be racy too. In city rides, the soft suspension of Korean hatch can prove a bit problematic and here the agile yet solid suspension of Skoda hatch comes very practical.

Also the NVH levels in Fabia are way better than Hyundai i20, although safety features are excellent in latter.
