If you’re for a turbodiesel family estate, are the Seat Exeo ST has escaped attention. Yet it’s well a look. Here’s why.

The Exeo ST is just an old Audi A4 it?

Pretty much. All the basics the same, while the styling is Luc with new bumpers and lights and rear, plus a revised and boot.

Inside you get the old A4 cabriolet distinguishable from the old saloon by of its triple centre air vents. It durable, and it’s well out and has an upmarket feel too.

I just get a new Audi A4 Avant?

If you can afford it, yes, but consider the Exeo ST range starts at over £19k and tops out beyond £23k. The cheapest A4 is the petrol 1.8 that’s 80bhp on the only petrol Exeo (a with 197bhp), and the Seat is almost £1k cheaper. The 2.0-litre diesel can be had in three 118bhp (from £19,155), (from £19,855) and 168bhp £22,445), yet the equivalent A4s with the same power outputs are £4.5k extra.

I bet the Exeo spec’s stingy,

Not so. Even in the mid-ranking SE trim we sampled, the Exeo ST is crammed standard equipment like air-con, rain-sensing wipers, control and a USB port.

The only laughter lines are blocky, buttons in the centre console. it’s a nice place to be seats with plenty of enough head- and legroom in the for a six-footer, plus a low deck for luggage loading and 60/40 rear seats. Seats up get 460 litres of luggage space 30 than the new A4, but Even Stevens the 3-series Touring.

How does it drive?

In 141bhp it pulls strongly with 1300rpm on the dial and is smooth, and moves swiftly through the with one long lunge. The is slick, the steering nicely and the ride, while a little is unlikely to sour the ownership

The Exeo is frugal too, our car turning in the same 53.3mpg and as the 118bhp diesel, yet 5mpg and 14g/km less than the TD range-topper.

With our car’s performance, it’s hard to its thirstier, dirtier, costlier

Verdict

Practical, well frugal, strong value, to drive and attractive too, is possibly Seat’s best

Whether it really fits the Seat brand is another but chances are that won’t to those who can see its appeal.
