Koleos Review

Editorial Test Drive Review of Renault Koleos

The Koleos soft-roader was launched in 2011 as a part of Renault‘s plan to launch 5 new models. On the looks, Renault has first launched the new second gen Koleos here. We have to say it is a lot better looking than the earlier generation Koleos with a heavy dose of aggression and attitude that the earlier Koleos lacked.

The Koleos looks low-slung and its sleek looks defy you to believe that it is indeed a SUV. The Koleos has lots of curves and lines draped beautifully over its body and it looks like a UFO next to the SUV’s with the ruler-straight lines. There are many interesting details at the front like the fully chrome surround grille with smoky twin barrel headlamps and I like the big wheel arches and those cool looking 17 inch alloys.

The Koleos has a protruding chin which makes it look futuristic and unique. From the side it looks more like a SUV coupe with its tight muscular lines and a slopping roof. The rear is more conservative in terms of design which includes silver satin finished skid plates and nicely designed tail-lamps. Build quality is top-notch and the paint quality is very good.

Inside, the steering-wheel is not too big not too small and it feels good to grip. The centre-console is where all the action is and all the buttons are neatly laid out and the rest of the interior is quite stark in its appearance.

Renault Koleos Pros Cons

Renault Koleos 2.0 dci Features

The Renault Koleos comes in a single variant with a 2.0 liter diesel engine and AWD.

The features on the car include 17 inch alloys, split tailgate, automatic headlights, leather seats, climate control, cruise control, ABS, Airbags, Audio system, fog lamps etc.

Renault Koleos Interiors

There is just one variant available in India, which is the top-of-the-line. And intentionally so, for Renault want to compete with the elite in this segment. It comes loaded with features such as an automatic four wheel drive, six airbags, cruise control, rain and light sensors and, most importantly, a brilliant eight-speaker Bose entertainment system. However, the Bose branding on the exterior is an overkill.

Emphasising after-sales service, the company is offering a two+two year, 80,000 km warranty. It aims to have 40 dealerships across India this year and close to 100 by the end of 2012. The interior quality is good as all the buttons and dials have a solid feel and feel good to use. However, the vast, blank surface of the dashboard could have been made more interesting by a smart use of different textures of plastic or by making it multi-layered.

The seats are wide and offer good support. The rear seats recline to make travelling more comfortable and there is adequate leg-room for all passengers. Renault have designed this SUV smartly to carve out 71 litres of storage space in the cabin, apart from the 450 litres of boot space.

You can also fold the rear seats to further increases storage space. The split tail-gate makes access to the boot easier while loading or unloading.
