GTi an Appropriate Reward for Australia’s Top Dirt Track Racer

3 May, 2001

Sprintcar Star Robbie Farr has won Australia’s toughest Sprintcar title and collected a Proton Satria GTi for his trouble.

Farr collected the $28,000 Satria GTi after he outstripped the nation’s best Sprintcar drivers to claim the tough Proton Sprintcar Driver of the Year at the nation’s premier speedway. Parramatta City Raceway.

The Proton Sprintcar Driver of the Year title spanned 28 meetings between October and April and saw Robbie Farr win 10 feature races over the summer and claim the title as well as the coveted prize, ahead of Max Dumesny, Garry Rush and Brett Loadsman.

According to Proton Cars Australia Managing Director Anuar Rozhan, the decision to back Speedway racing proved to be a valuable summer promotion which delivered strong buyer interest and sales.

It was tremendous being involved with an exciting sport which attracts a huge number of motorsport enthusiasts each week, said Mr Rozhan.

Proton can directly attribute a large number of sales to our involvement with the Sprintcars as well increasing customer interest in our showcases, he added.

We congratulate Robbie Farr for a tremendous performance in winning the Championship and the Proton Satria GTi while we would like to thank David Lander and Wade Aunger as well as all the team at Parramatta for their efforts throughout the season, Mr Rozhan said.

Farr was the most consistent and successful driver of the season taking his EWT Sprintcar Team Stealth to more feature wins and placings than any other driver in the series.

I’d like to thank my team and Proton cars Australia for what has been my best season of racing in a decade, said Farr.

It has been a great season and every driver has been trying to win this car so the competition has been extremely fierce on the best Sprintcar track in the country, he added.

The 28 year old Sydney based Sprintcar star clinched the title by more than 1300 points from Garry Rush.

At the same time as Farr was presented with his Proton Satria GTi, 19 year old Speedway fan Nicole Hood of Chester Hill in Sydney won a brand new Proton Satria XLS in a competition for fans at the track on the night.

The prize presented by Sydney City Roosters star Luke Phillips came at an appropriate time for Nicole, who is currently on a learners permit and will now sit the licence test in her new Proton.

All Protons sold in Australia come with Protec that includes a three year/one million kilometre warranty and 24 hour road side assistance for the duration of the warranty.

Protons are available through the Proton Cars Direct Showcase outlets as well as the network of Proton dealers around the country.
