Mercedes Sprinter

This listing is for a used Mercedes Sprinter 413 CDI (2002) converted to a motorhome/ campervan. Manual diesel. The van was previously a riot van for South Wales police so comes with bulletproof reinforced glass windscreen and darkened toughened Perspex windows all round in the rear. The van is a high top so you can stand up in the back and being a medium wheel base, it is still small enough to manoeuvre and park easily. It is a 4.6 tonne Sprinter with twin wheels on the back.

We’re selling the van because we’ve replaced with another vehicle so don’t need it any more. The tax has just expired (Aug 2013) and van now has SORN declaration. MOT until 15th April 2014.

This Mercedes van is really reliable and has never been any trouble. 140820 miles.

The rear of the van is carpeted throughout (newly laid) and has a range of fitted units which are constructed from quality Vohringer board (tough with high quality finish and trim designed for this motorhome use). There are 2 top lockers above seats, a low level storage unit, a wardrobe cupboard then a further 3 cupboards and additional top locker in the kitchen area at rear of van. The kitchen has built in sink drainer unit, 12v fridge with freezer compartment, gas 3 hob cooker and gas integral oven with grill combined. The sink/ drainer and cooker hob both have fold up black glass tops.

The seat in the rear of the van was made to order in France and is a RIB Altair seat which is probably the best seat/ bed system you can get. It is folds out to a double bed by a mechanical system (no rearranging cushions, boards, etc as you get on home made beds). The RIB seating system is fully crashed tested and is forward facing with 2 seat belts headrests so is as safe as can be for transporting passengers.

It is comfortable to sit and sleep on and easy and quick to convert to bed.

There is a 58 litre water tank installed under the van. Tank needs connecting to sink which is not a big job (everything is there – we just have not got round to connecting it).

There are swivel and fixed spot lights all round in the rear with a main ceiling light (which has several settings for different light levels). In the kitchen area at rear of van, then is a thermostat controlled vent fan which can either be set to take in or extract air. A large roof light window has been installed in the centre of the rear area which includes built in fly screen and sun shade.

The van has mains hook up connection (all cables supplied) so there is a double plug socket in rear for times when hooked up to mains. There are lined curtains installed around all rear windows and across bulkhead.

A comprehensive electronic control system is installed to control monitor van leisure battery levels, in out temperatures water levels. There is a JVC CD player with built in DAB radio receiver in the front which has a remote control so can be activated from the rear.

There is a built in diesel powered central heating system which can be activated without the engine running. It is really effective and heats up the van quickly and economically.

On the passenger side of the van there is a wind out awning which can function either just as an overhead sun/ rain shelter (as in picture). The awning also has sides and a front which can be easily zipped on to form an additional room. The awning room has plastic windows (which have attachable curtains) and a door.

There is a exterior light fixed to the van above the sliding door.

This vehicle is over 3.5 tonne so some people with newer licences may not be able to drive it. It is a 4.6 tonne vehicle so is registered as private HGV with annual tax of £165.

BUT There are some bad points about the van:

The battery light has just started to come on so I presume there is a problem with the alternator.

There are a few rust spots and general wear and tear on body. Also rust on rear corner. It is however sound underneath.

There is a problem with the sliding door – it is dented and is catching but not pulling closing properly. It is also missing the interior cover so looks a bit messy and is missing insulation.

One window is leaking slightly – sealant needs redoing.

So yes there are a few things that need doing which is why we are selling it at a reasonable price (considering the model of the van and cost of components in the conversion).

Inspection of the van welcome so if you have any questions, want more pictures or want to arrange a viewing, please get in touch.
