Porsche Panamera

The Porsche Panamera is one of the popular models that the company has produced. Back in 2009, the Porsche Panamera was introduced by the company into the world of automobiles. The new Porsche design boasted of a four-door feature and a four-seat coupe. This new design was a sleeker and upgraded version of a previous Porsche automobile: the Cayenne.

The latter possessed a 4.5 L V8 engine with an FSI system that was designed for front and rear wheel drive.

Rumors, prior to the release of the Porsche Panamera, circulated that because this was going to be an upgrade of the Cayenne, it would have a V10 engine such as those installed in the limited-run Carrera GT supercar. But eventually, car engineers from the company debunked the rumors regarding a higher engine power and capacity when they released the model with only a V8 engine capacity.

Despite having a similar engine capacity to the Cayenne, this still proved to be big news for the company.

At the time, the company had recently acquired a new manufacturing plant in Leipzig and it was announced that this was where the Porsche Panamera was going to be produced alongside the previous model the Cayenne. Despite being an older model, the Cayenne was still being manufacture during this time. Up until 1995, Porsche had yet to introduce a new car model that had a powerful V8 engine.

The Porsche, in the same year, halted production of the 928, a similarly designed automobile except for the two-door feature. Of course, there were a lot of upgrades made on the Porsche Panamera in comparison to the older 928 models but engine-wise, the two models are considered to be quite similar.

The Panamera was labeled as a direct competition of two popular cars of the age: the Mercedes-Benz CLS 55 and the Maserati Quattroporte. The public commented that it was a cheaper but equally glamorous competitor of different high-end vehicles namely, the Bentley Continental GT, Aston Martin Rapide and Ferrari 612 Scaglietti.

Despite having a more affordable price tag, the aesthetics of the Porsche Panamera did not fail to impress buyers and avid automobile fans all over the European nation as well as all over the world. If anything, the cheaper price tag made it an even more popular choice among buyers. After all, in comparing the features (under the hood), the Panamera boasts of similar features: a strong V8 engine and capacity that can go head to head with other high-end cars.

Similar to another Porsche automobile the Porsche Carrera the Porsche Panamera’s name was also taken from a similar source: the Carrera Panamerican race. Prior to the introduction of the Porsche Panamera into the market, the company had several different prototypes of similar cars. The company had designed several prototypes of four-door sedans in 1991 such as the Porsche 989. Another prototype with a four-door feature was the 911.

Unfortunately these two models were nothing more than prototypes because they were never mass-produced for the public. The only four-door design that was released by Porsche at the time was the Panamera.
