History of the Peugeot 207

The Peugeot 207 supermini was launched in the UK in 2006.

It was preceeded by the 205 and 206 cars with Peugeot building on what had gone before.

The car was quite big for a supermini so needed a decent engine to keep things moving along at an acceptable pace.

Power was provided by a number of engines including a 1.4-litre petrol engine linked to a five-speed manual transmission.

The Peugeot 207 had light steering and a tight turning circle making it manoeuvrable – particularly when parking or picking a way through traffic.

The Peugeot 207 was available as a hatchback, drop top or estate with the ride more like a family saloon as it floated along in typical French fashion.

The 207 was one of the bigger cars in its class with the interior offering enough room for even six-foot plus adults.

The Peugeot 207’s seats were comfortable with room in the cabin for heads, legs and shoulders.

Materials used included soft-touch plastics and chrome-ringed instrument dials giving an executive look.

The Peugeot 207’s driving position was designed to suited all shapes and sizes. The cabin was insulated against wind, road or engine noise.

The Peugeot 207’s boot was able to handle the weekly shopping for a family.

Peugeot ensured the 207 was a safe place to be as every model had front and side airbags as well as the latest electronic aids to help stop the car.

Equipment on the Peugeot 207 S model’s entry-level Urban trim included air conditioning, electrically operated door mirrors, front fog lights, electric front windows and remote control central locking with deadlocks.

The last revision for the Peugeot 207 model came in 2009. Three years earlier saw the launch of 207 GT THP 150 in the UK.

Then a year later Peugeot introduced the 1.6 VTi petrol engine and automatic gearbox versions as well as launching the 207 GTi THP 175 in the UK.

Later that year saw the 207 VTi 95 petrol engine introduced to the range of power units.

Then in 2009 a restyled version of the Peugeot 207 was introduced followed later that year by a 207 Economique which had carbon dioxide emissions of 99g/km. Peugeot decided to drop the 207 GTi THP 175 from the range in 2010 before later that year introducing a Euro 5 HDi 112 and THP 156 and six-speed gearbox introduced. The year was completed with the introduction of the 207 Sportium Special Edition.

The following year a revised 207 range was launched made at the company’s production sites in Poissy, France; Villaverde, Spain; and Trnava in Slovakia. A six-model range featured Access, Active, Envy, Allure, 98g Oxygo and 98g Oxygo +. There was also a low emission 99g Oxygo version with carbon dioxide emissions for all 207 models ranging from 98 to 160g/km.

The Peugeot 207 Sportium range was also expanded with new engines and a multi-media system.

It was available with a choice of two petrol or two HDi diesel engines in hatchback only.

The HDi models had carbon dioxide emissions of 110g/km while the multi media unit featured a 6.2-inch touch screen plus satellite navigation and built in Bluetooth.

The Peugeot 207 Sportium Special Edition hatchback was based on the standard 207 Active model.

It was available with a choice of two petrol and two HDi diesel engines. The petrol engines consisted of a 1.4-litre 8v and 1.4-litre VTi 95 engine, and the HDi diesel engines were the 1.4-litre HDi 70 and 1.6-litre HDi 92. All engines were Euro 5 compatible.

All models benefitted from power steering, four airbags, remote control central locking with deadlocks and electric front windows.
