With five doors and five seatings, the new Opel Agila is not only as practical as its predecessor, which sold over 440000, units, but is now also much more dynamically developed. The small, versatile Opel was represented to the public at the 2007 IAA in Frankfurt (september 13 – 23, 2007) and made its sphere premiere in spring 2008. It boasts balanced proportions, soft curves and a distinctive side graphic.

Its passengers still sit high and upright, but the roofline has been dynamically lowered and now blends into a smooth arc toward the back. This helps create the Opel Agila‘s aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0. 35 – a relatively low figure for a car of this size. The urban vehicle is now 20 centimeters longer, six centimeters wider, but seven centimeters lower than its predecessor.

The front boasts typical Opel look-and-feel. With its round headlamps integrated into almond-shaped lamp units that echo the new Corsa, the Opel Agila sees the world via wide eyes. The tapering of the front and back bumpers are also typical Opel components, just like the crease in the hood. The back also features several rounded details.

The positioning of the narrow vertical light units, which are accented by the spherically styled back lights, allowed developers to create a big, simple load-through tailgate.

The same is true for the interior: the boring days are over. A wide selection of fresh colours and modern styles create an ambience that’s improved even more by the roomy headroom. The versatile five-seater’s high seats position ensures good visibility, while the high placed gear stick and height-adjustable helm with radio remote controls ensure simple operation.

The rev counter is housed separately on the instrument panel. All other data readouts are given on big, distinctive, round instruments.

With the Suzuki Splash, a new fresh and impressive small passenger vehicle, Suzuki Motor Corporation intends to gain a significant sphere share in this growing sphere segment in Europe. The new customizable compact vehicle features the sportiness of Suzuki’s successful model Swift with the technologies and immense know-how of the Japanese world sphere leader in the mini vehicle segment.

The Suzuki Splash is not the successor of any specific former Suzuki model, but a brand-new concept to satisfy the needs of demanding European buyers in terms of roominess, compactness, modern layout, aerodynamics, class, driveability, performance and environmental friendliness. The security equipment encompasses state-of-the-art features such as six airbags and an Electronic Stability Program (ESP).

It looks fresh, energetic, juvenile and emotional and thereby underlines the aspiration of its name Suzuki Splash. Within the global growth strategy of Suzuki, the Suzuki Splash is already the fourth completely new model within three years after the release of Swift, Grand Vitara and SX4 which all embody Suzuki’s original ‘way of Life!’-philosophy.

Within this sphere segment, the vehicle convinces with a relatively tall body (1. 6 metres) based on the chassis from the sporty Swift. With its overall length of 3. 7 metres and width of 1. 7 metres it provides an amply tall and convenient spacious cab with sufficient legroom for adults on all seatings.

Its modern layout leads to impressive aerodynamic efficiency and consequently to low carbon-dioxide emissions.

The Suzuki Splash will make its worldwide debut at the International Motor Show in September in Frankfurt am Main. Sales of the vehicle with its impressive ride convenience will start as of spring 2008. It will be available with two various petrol engines: a 1. 0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve unit with maximum performance of 48kw (65hp) and a 1. 2-litre, four-cylinder, 16-valve unit with maximum performance of 63kw (86hp).

With these engines, low friction and plentiful flat torque delivery at low and mid-range speeds help to ensure good driveability across the rev range while promoting fuel efficiency and limiting CO2 emissions. Buyers preferring a diesel motor can select a proven 1. 3-litre, common rail, 16-valve unit with auxillary particulate filter and a maximum performance of 55kw (75hp).

In light of the growing need for environmental compatibility, emissions of all three engines with 5-speed manual gearbox are between only 120g/km and 140g/km. The petrol engines were both newly designed by Suzuki Motor Corporation as next-generation performance engines. The diesel motor will be manufactured at Suzuki’s plant in India under licence from GM Powertrain Europe.

Suzuki aims to sell up to 60000, units per year of the Suzuki Splash in Europe. The brand-new model has been designed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and will be manufactured by its subsidiary company Magyar Suzuki Corporation in Hungary.
