Buy this make again?

Price and equipment

Rating: 5.0 out of 5 stars

I inherited my car from my daughter who bought a brand new X Trail ST-L. with all the little luxuries. Nissan always come to the party when it comes to price. they gave her a very good deal on both cars. The accesories are always overpriced and I think some of them should be standard fittings anyway

Under the bonnet

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

more than enough power for running around and long trips. Don’t compare to a Patrol. the CVT transmision is undetectable during normal driving. Switching to 4WD has never been simpler but haven’t been able to put it to the test.

Did try the steep descent mode and this certainly is a good safety feature for offroaders.

How it drives

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I have had many cars in my lifetime and would rate the X Trail amongst the most comfortable and surefooted cars around. The only car I have owned to outdo it (and any car) is a Volvo, but then again they are the innovators of just about every feature we enjoy in cars today. Love the cruise control but manufacturers should alert drivers to NOT use this feature in conditions where there are sharp bends. stability is excellent

Comfort and practicality

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

I suffer from builder’s back and find I can drive the X Trail all day long without discomfort. the pedal layout in relation to seat position is excellent. the seats have just the right amount of wraparound and visibilty is excellent. Although reversing visibilty is good, a reversing camera should be standard in this day and age. I love the cupholders but the central armrest could be improved as it is too far back due to handbrake position. instrument layout is very good and easy to see

Servicing and running costs

Rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

servicing costs, as with all new cars, is outragous, I can never understand why these costs are so superficially high when it causes the buyer to go to a licenced recognised mechanic who can do the job for half the price or less, using the same genuine parts so as to not void the warranty. My daughter used to get 9.1 lt per 100 km with the a/c on all the time, I can only manage 11.2 lt per 100 km probably because I take off to quick in stop and start situations. I get 9.8 on longer trips.

Aesthetics styling

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

having been a Vlovo owner, I chuckle at people who criticise good, practicle and safe design. the interior is as good as any, better then most. the exterior is easy to wash and polish and appears to be aerodynamic judging from the water flow during rain and handling in high winds.

Safety and security

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

we can only go by nthe star rating which is comparable to other SUV’s except Volvo. I feel safe and secure when I am driving and the vehicle is glued to the road when put to the test. I like going up and down mountain passes for this pupose.

I find the brakes are pressure sensative and have no problem pulling the car up quickly, when called upon. there are lots of places to stow things including the handy tray in the cargo hold.

Quality and reliability

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

in 90,000 kms the car has only had a sollenoid problem with the gear shift whcih was fixed under warranty. around 45-50 kmph there is a light whining sound when accelrating, anyone who has the radio on or a window slighty open, would never hear it.

Overall verdict

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I have had Nissan/Datsun cars in the past and have one now because they are good, reliable and value for money vehicles. I would buy Nissan again as has my daughter. Try before you buy all ather SUV’s in this class and you will choose X Trail without a doubt.

Best price, perfomance, comfort, visibility, space, handling etc.etc.
