New Opel Agila

Opel has unveiled the next generation Agila, the compact urban car developed and produced in partnership with Suzuki. The exterior design has smoother lines and slightly increased dimensions.

Compared to the outgoing model, the second-generation Opel Agila is slightly longer (+200 mm) and wider (+60 mm) while the total height has been reduced by 70 mm.

It will make its world premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt (September 13 #8211; 23, 2007) and will go on sale starting from spring 2008.

The modern five-door mini-monocab body has flowing lines, a dynamic roofline and a typical Opel face.

The upcoming Agila is based on a newly developed chassis with the front axle mounted to subframe and semi-independent rear suspensions.

As well as the current model, the project was deveoped in close partnership with Suzuki and the car platform is shared with the Splash model . previewed by the concept that debuted at the 2006 Paris Motor Show.

The versatile interior can accomodate five passengers and offers the driver a high seating position which provides good visibility.

Among the main features are the gear stick located in a raised position at the base of the center console and the large distinctive round speedometer, with the rev counter in a separate housing.

The colors choice includes fresh tones like orange and blue for fabrics, center console and instrument panel edging.

The equipment includes height-adjustable steering wheel with remote controls, height-adjustable front seats and numerous compartments.

The 60:40 split rear seat backs can be folded down to create a completely flat load floor, with a compartment beneath providing additional storage space.

In total, the Agila has a luggage capacity of more than 1100 liters accessible through its large trunk lid the top figure in this segment.

The range of engines includes two new gasoline units (1.0 l/65 hp with five-speed manual transmission, 1.2 l/86 hp also available with automatic gearbox) and one common-rail direct-injection diesel unit (1.3 l/75 hp, 190 Nm), available with diesel particulate filter.

Passive safety systems include front and side airbags and driver safety belt warning signal, with the front passenger airbag that can be deactivated as standard. Head curtain airbags and ESP are available as options.
