2014 Porsche Cayenne Overview

Seven different Cayenne models

Standard all-wheel drive

Practically unchanged for 2014

The 2014 Porsche Cayenne has found a way to combine sportiness with SUV practicality and off-road capability in a stylish package that has been one of Porsche’s best-selling models for years now.

Equally comfortable on- and off-road, the 2014 Cayenne practically unchanged for the new model year. In 2013, it added two all-new trims in the Cayenne Diesel and the performance oriented Cayenne GTS, which gives the Cayenne no less than seven different models. They are: Cayenne, Cayenne S, Cayenne S Hybrid (covered separately on this site), Cayenne GTS, Cayenne Turbo, Cayenne Turbo S, and Cayenne diesel.

The Cayenne’s styling was updated in 2011. It’s has a sleek, swept-back look, with familiar Porsche headlamps and a modern shape that is less muscular than a traditional SUV. A rear spoiler is standard as are 18-inch wheels (19-, 20-, and 21-inch wheels are optional).

Under the hood, the Cayenne offers various engine options divided by trim level. Base Cayenne models are powered by a 300-hp, 3.6-liter V-6. Cayenne S models get a 400-hp, 4.8-liter V-8 that is tuned up to 420-hp in the GTS.

The Cayenne Turbo features a turbocharged version of that V-8 which makes 500-hp, while the Turbo S gets a modified version of that engine making 550-hp. Finally, the Cayenne Diesel receives a 240-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6. The base Cayenne offers your choice of a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic, while the V-8 and Diesel models only offer the automatic.

Automatic gasoline models get fuel-saving start/stop technology. Every Cayenne features all-wheel drive.

Inside, the Cayenne has one of our favorite interior features: grip handles at the bottom of the center console which help keep front occupants in place. They flank a long center console that bleeds from the dashboard all the way down to the armrests. The second row slides forward and back over 6-inches, adding extra leg room for backseat occupants or additional cargo room when that is needed.

Standard features include a 7-inch touchscreen display that controls the audio system, air conditioning, HomeLink remote, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Safety features include antilock brakes, electronic stability system, driver’s knee airbag, and traction control. A blind spot warning system and adaptive cruise control are optional safety technology.
