7 Car Gift Ideas

Understanding that many people are time pressed, we#8217;ve developed a list of seven automotive themed gift items in recognition that there is likely one commonality amongst your many gift recipients: virtually everyone drives.

Our list is by no means comprehensive, but it covers gifts from the stocking stuffer on up. We tell you where you can find each item, but you are encouraged to search on-line to compare prices, check on availability, review shipping policies, and more.

Stocking Stuffer . Wagan Easy Quick Jumper (Product #9796)

Why: The perfect gift for the person who doesn#8217;t like the idea of connecting jumper cables to restart their car. Instead, inserting the “quick jumper” into the respective cigarette lighter outlets will gradually recharge a dead battery in about five to ten minutes time.

Where Available . Select on-line retailers as well as at Walgreens and Target.

Price: $18-$30.

Grab Bagger: Rugged Roll Work Seat (The Step2 Company)

Why: The same people who designed so many of your children#8217;s favorite play items including toddler slides, playhouses and wagons, have made an ideal gift to give to your weekend mechanic friend. Similar to their popular Garden Hopper seat, Step2 has developed a product that can hold a grown man#8217;s weight, while allowing him to clean or change a tire without bending. Lubricant, tools, cleaners, even a can of his favorite 12 oz. beverage can be carried in the various storage pockets or the cup holder.

Where Available: Through Step2 Direct ( ), select on-line retailers, and local auto parts stores.

Price: $35-$40.

Technophile Fanatic: Apple iPhone Cradle (Mercedes-Benz)

Why: The hugely popular Apple iPhone has created a market for supporting devices and equipment including holders for drivers which makes on the road usage possible. Available for most Mercedes-Benz models including the C-, E-, CLK-,CLS-, S-, CL-, SL-, M- and R-Class, this cradle offers seamless integration between a car#8217;s stereo system and the iPhone.

Where Available: Check with your local Mercedes-Benz dealer for availability.

Price: $350-$400.

Racecar Driver: Dale Jarrett Racing Adventure

Why: NASCAR fans cannot get enough of motorsport racing unless, of course, some grateful recipient is able to get behind the wheel of their favorite race car and take it for a 170 mph spin at a nearby racetrack. On select dates in 2009 they can do just that, but only if you give that special someone the opportunity to drive authentic NASCAR equipment and receive one on one instruction from a professional. From 3 laps to 80, you can design the gift to fit most any budget.

Where Available: Kansas Speedway, Kansas City, KS; visit for more information.

Price: $150-$2995, depending on the number of laps to be driven.

Wrench Turner: 53” Stainless Steel Tool Chest (Kobalt)

Why: For the serious wrench turner, this stainless steel tool chest provides sixteen drawers of storage for all of their tools, but it doesn#8217;t stop there. Also included is a Pioneer sound system with three-way speakers, an integrated power strip, and a 1.6 cubic foot refrigerator roomy enough to hold snacks and cold drinks.

Morgan Aero 8

Where Available: Lowe#8217;s home improvement warehouse.

Muscle Car Enthusiast: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro

Why: The iconic Camaro made its return when it rolled off an Oshawa, Ontario assembly line this spring. Discontinued in 2002, the all-new 2+2 coupe pays tribute to previous generation models while incorporating the latest technology to help it produce maximum power while saving fuel. Choose either the 3.6L V6 or 6.2L V8, which will deliver an estimated 29 mpg and 26 mpg highway respectively.

Ten colors to choose from, but the convertible will not be ready before Summer 2011.

Where Available: Most Chevrolet dealers are now taking advance orders.

Price: $40 for the 1:18 die cast yellow model with black stripes available through (you#8217;ll need to have him unwrap something come Christmas morn!). Beginning MSRP for the base coupe will be about $23,000; fully loaded just above $35,000.

Vintage Car Booster: Morgan Aero 8 America

Why: Perhaps you know someone who loves vintage cars, but isn#8217;t too keen on spending months or even years restoring a classic.
