Mitsubishi innovative Electric Vehicle (MiEV) or Mitsubishi In wheel motor Electric Vehicle (MIEV) is the name given by Japanese giant auto manufacturing company Mitsubishi Motors. Mitsubishi has pioneered a new technology called Alternative Propulsion technology. This Electric sedan was launched in Mitsubishi’s Colt EV. Colt EV is a colt based concept car showcased in 2005 Tokyo Motor show.

This model was powered by a series of Li-ion batteries with the help of electric motor located in the wheel. Mitsubishi MI-EV began its sales on April 2010 in Japanese market. In global auto market we can expect this sedan in the month of October or November. MiEV’s motors are constructed using an in wheel rotor, rotor bracket, in wheel motor, inverted directly behind brakes and stator bracket.

  The batteries of this sedan can be charged from a standard 200v or 15 A chargers and these batteries can be fully charged with in seven hour. The batteries are placed under the floor pan and this sedan used 22 Li-ion modules to produced combined power of 325 V. the main advantages of placing motor behind the wheels are

The main attraction of this sedan is the pollution free power train. Normally this sedan model used a turbocharged gasoline cylinder of 600 cc capacity. The new 2012 model substitutes an electric motor powered by 300 volt Li-ion battery module. The battery module consists of 22 X 4 cell module.

This battery module is supplied by Lithium Energy Japan. Company lists driving range up to 100 miles and can travel at a top speed of 81 MPH.

Features of 2010 Mitsubishi I-Mi-EV

Mitsubishi I-Mi-EV is basically a two door sedan which resembles the shape of 1950’s BMW Isetta. The entire body of this sedan is fabricated with high standard plastic which reduces the overall weight. Reduced weight with electric motor of 8 HP and torque of 170 Lb-Ft helps to extend the single charge drive capacity to 124 miles.

This sedan takes 13 seconds to reach 60 MPH sprint.
