Mitsubishi GTO Overview

The Mitsubishi GTO is classed as a sports car and was produced by the Japanese automobile manufacturing company Mitsubishi Motors. This car is better known as the Mitsubishi 3000GT in most export markets, as the GTO name was not used in many markets. Between 1991 and 1996 this car was sold as the Dodge Stealth in North America. This car is a great example of efficiency, lightness and having state of the art gadgets for its time. These cars are great fun to dive and handle pretty well.

They were well equipped but the steering and gear changing wasn’t great. Does this sound anything like your experience of the GTO?

Mitsubishi GTO History

The first generation (1990-93) GTO was introduced in 1990 as a four seater sports coupe that was introduced at the time of the small sports car boom of the early nineties. These cars had many great electrical features including: pop-up headlights, adjustable spoilers and electronically adjusted suspension.

The second generation (1994-96) had a new bumper which was easily identifiable when compared with its predecessor. The main reason for this was to accommodate the projector headlights and fog lights. This model had 6-spped manual gearbox to replace the 5-speed one.

The third generation (1997-2001) was more of a makeover version with some exterior changes being made to parts such as the bumper and wings. It had another slight makeover in 1999 before ceasing production in 2001.

Fuel Economy

The Mitsubishi GTO was available as a 3.0L petrol engine but there were three different variants: 12V, 24V and 24V Twin Turbo. The 3.0L engine could do up to 22mpg. Which version did you have and how do you rate its performance?

Remember to think about the age, fuel type and engine size of a vehicle when considering fuel economy.
