1998 Mitsubishi Canter 35 2.8 NON turbo from UK and Ireland

easy to maintain, but slow and let by some poor European

Viscous fan seems to stay in full speed unless the is going totally flat

Rear lights (European are appalling and need constant due to the casings being poorly the bulbs go often, or fall

At the MOT test they advised one of the kingpins had play in it. I was surprised the age of the vehicle.

General Comments:

feelings about this First the Good Points:

has great looks. Good good dashboard, lots of in cab, indicator stalk is on the side, RH on RH drive (rare days).

Exhaust brake works and is a welcome feature, along the electric windows. (because the one is too far away to reach from the side otherwise).

Switches and good. Brakes excellent.

and reluctance to roll on tight is excellent.

Steering is light and Column has 2 adjustments. Adjustble pivot height.

Ride is on smooth roads, with no road noise.

Heating and is fantastic.

Access for maintenance is with the tilting cab.

It has reliable.

Now the BAD points.

Gear is bad and synchros are bad. Double is safest.

Suspension is bad. Springs no travel. 2 inches and it#039;s on the stops. Very bad on bumpy especially unladen.

Wipers well, but clonk loudly on top sounds like a linkage the dash.

Performance is abysmal. economy is very poor. 15 mpg if hard, 23 if driven absolutely you were in an economy competition.

sounds harsh, especially outside the vehicle.

Propshaft at low revs.

Tempted to find kind of petrol engine to it with to get better power, and quietness. I wish they had this truck with a engine.

Air intake is noisy if a is open, as it is behind the cab on the driver#039;s

Gearshift is different to normal, is down, second is up etc, you get to it, but you always have to think it. Bad idea if you are a rental company rents these out, as the is not intuitive and could result in boxes.

This vehicle is as 3500KG gross vehicle it is very heavy unladen, so with aluminium short bed on it, it only carry 1200 Kg.

The handbrake is a bad design on a vehicle would otherwise be easy to from one side to the other in the Handbrake not efficient either.

The wheels are 16 inch, this the chassis higher than like a Transit, or Sprinter. Not a for some bodies, but bad for loading ramps.

Mitsubishi Canter

Chassis rails very close together, body design harder. I it especially hard to mount a that had previously been on a CF.

Mirrors stick out too far and are not aerodynamic. clumsy.

Overall gearing of is too low. It runs out of revs.

5th is not much higher ratio 4th gear.

The rear brakes up easily when unladen.

has long travel and only clears when the pedal is down. Even a rubber mat on the will cause the clutch to

Rear window is needlessly Why is it not wider? Difficult for reversing.

If bottle over half fluid dribbles from onto screen on LH corners. annoying. Bottle should been mounted lower.

seat has suspension, but even on the setting and a 15 stone driver, not compress, so not really doing its

One gets the impression that the is disjointed in its design, and not refined being marketed. Generally quality is good, most of the seem to be Japanese thankfully, but the is assembled in Portugal, something I realise until buying I went for Mitsubishi brand they are Japanese, diluting the with poorly made european components (rear for example) is a very bad idea.

If I wanted something plasticy and I would have bought a brand in the first place.

Comforable fairly quiet and to drive apart from the bad harsh sluggish engine, bad of suspension values, undergeared and the poor economy.

Due to the rugged design, I am tempted to keep the as I can imagine it needing no repairs for

Perhaps the newer, turbocharged are better.

Would you buy another car this manufacturer? Don#039;t
