Sport. when I bought it

It is a Porsche 968 Sport. 3 litre, 4 cylinder 16-value engine, producing 236 HP. It’s front engined, rear wheel drive, 6-speed gearbox.

The Sport model was only available to buy in the UK, offered in 1994 and 1995. A total of only 306 were made and only 192 are still on the road today. It was essentially a Club Sport, but with the addition of electric windows, central locking, comfort seats, 2 rear seats (all of which I am going to remove to in essence create a Club Sport spec car!).

And these days the Sport is half the price of a Club Sport which have become very collectable.

Yes, its purple, and not a subtle purple at that! Not exactly my first choice of colour, but that really doesn’t matter for racing. By the time its covered in stickers, and various modifications, it won’t look too bad.

A brief history of L274 FTT

From what I can gleam from the paperwork it started live in Exeter, delivered on 26th May 1994 and initially used as a demonstrator by Carrs of Exeter Porsche Dealer. (Bizarrely the same dealer where my Boxster came from too!) It was then sold to a Mr Cresswell in Somerset, before then moving on to Reading. For some time it had the registration of A20 NBR.

In 2004 it was bought by Mr Wright from County Down in Northern Ireland, where it stayed until 2010. It was then brought back to England by his nephew, Dave Penney from Hertforshire. The reason for the sale was that Mr Wright knew some big bills on the horizon, so Dave brought it back to England and had the seals and gaskets replaced and new universal steering joint.

Dave enjoyed the car for around a year, doing some track days at Brands Hatch and a roadtrip to Holland.

I became the final owner in 2011, buying it from my good friends at RPM Porsche Specialists in Cheddington.

So why a Porsche 968?

Well firstly I’m a Porsche fanatic, so it had to be a Porsche race car. I was thinking about building a 911 race car, but the cost would be been double this. A 944 was another option, and I’ve owned one previously, but I’ve also liked the 968 so when this good sound car came available via RPM Porsche. it became the obvious choice.

The Porsche 968 is ideal for racing as it has a near 50/50 weight distribution, its relatively easy to work on, and plenty of spare parts available. They are becoming increasingly popular to race too, so there are a few race series I can enter.

So L274 FTT is now mine, and living at the RPM Porsche workshop ready for work to commence transforming her into the racing machine, our Porsche 968 MFR.
