Will A-Class Help Mercedes-Benz Regain Its Lost Market In India?

Mercedes-Benz. once No.1 premium luxury brand in India, lost its shine when other German rivals BMW and Audi eat into its market. Lagging far behind at No. 3 position, the company has introduced a brand new segment of premium hatchback in the form of A-Class.

Mercedes-Benz had launched this car last month in India and hopes for revival of its falling market share.

As its slogan goes #8216;Pulse of the New generation#8217;, Mercedes-Benz India is looking to target the young customers who prefers quality and do not mind to spend some extra bucks for it. The company sees a potential of selling atleast 100-150 units of A Class in a month. It will complement the B Class Sport Tourer which sells about 50 cars a month with just the petrol variant.

The diesel B Class will be launched in the coming weeks.

Mr. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “The young India today desires compact luxury; the A-Class addresses this need in the mobility area. The overwhelming response of the A-Class on the social media even before its launch reaffirms that the A-Class will carve a niche for itself in the luxury automotive domain in India. 2013 is the year of offensive for Mercedes-Benz India and the A-Class’ launch reiterates our promise of bringing the most fascinating cars for our valued customers in India.”

Mercedes-Benz A-Class is the most affordable Merc available in Indian market. The diesel powered A180 CDI is priced lower at Rs 21.93 lakh, while the petrol variant A180 Sport is priced at Rs 22.73 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Mumbai). In this price range A-Class#8217; closest rival will be BMW#8217;s MINI which it introduced in the country last year and the upcoming BMW 1 Series.
