Generations of the 7 Seater Car Mazda Premacy:

First generation of Mazda Premacy (1999–2004):

When this car was first introduced into the market in the year 1999, it was among the least expensive seven seater vehicles in the market at that time. The Mazda’s CP platform was used in the Premacy which came in 1999. Both Front wheel drive and All wheel drive models were available and they were incorporated with 4-speed automatic transmission.

Like in other minivans, the seats at the second and third rows could be removed or folded providing for greater luggage space. This car was vended in certain Asian markets as the Ford Ixion.

Second generation of Mazda Premacy (2005–2010):

In the summer of the year 2005, a new model was launched with added features. This came to be known as the Mazda5 in other markets other than Japan. This car is perceived as a compact minivan in Europe and in the US, it is seen as a mini-minivan.

One of the closest relative of the Mazda5 is the compact MPV Ford Focus C-MAX manufactured in Europe. However the Mazda5 has sliding doors at the back where else the Ford has normal four door system. This seven seater Mazda Premacy was a bit larger than the Toyota van which came in 1984 to 1989.

Third generation (2011–):

The third generation of Mazda Premacy has debuted at the Geneva Auto Show of 2010. The third generation Premacy has been given a new style and build. The vehicle is already on sale in Japan from July 2010.

This Mazda5 is coming in three grades, 20E, 20S and 20CS. CS is the base model and costs about $20,000. Two years later, an even higher efficient version will be launched and will be known as the Mazdaspeed Premacy.

Features of the MPV Mazda Premacy:

Main Features:

The Mazda Premacy has airbags at its front and sides and is also equipped with electronic brake force distribution. In the crash test conducted by Euro NCAP, this seven seater vehicle scored a rating of three stars. The Premacy has been found to be an above average vehicle and has good storage space and gives great value for the money spent.

Specifications:

Both the first and second generation of Mazda Premacy provide flat floors, foldable and removable seats at the second row and flat folding seats in the third row. Before 2001, the vehicles were fitted with either a 2 litre diesel engine or a 1.8 litre petrol engine. However, all models were provided with heated mirrors, electric front windows and air conditioning. The Mazda with 2.0 litre petrol capacity had traction control, rear electric windows and alloy wheels.

The seats at the back are higher by 50mm than the front seats so that the passengers sitting at the back can have a better view.

Exterior and Interior Features:

The Mazda Premacy has high-quality surfaces and soft body lines. The vehicle has wide doors so that is quite easy to tuck oneself or any cargo easily inside. The improvised design of the cehicle’s interior gives more room between seats at the front and back rows. In place of a hand brake lever, the vehicle has been fitted with a pedal and the gearbox lever is substituted with steering wheel levers.

Great mirrors, raised seats and widespread glass provide good visibility. The instrumentation panel although not overloaded is quite instructive. The steering wheel has a built in airbag and the height of the steering column has the ability to be adjusted so that steering becomes easier. Mirror joysticks and window lift buttons are fitted on the door armrest of the driver. All of the seats can be folded, unfolded, transformed or removed without much effort.

The vehicle is also provided with many glass holders, folding tables and compartments for storing small things.

Maintenance:

The vehicle can give about 300 000 km before being given for first service. The vehicle performs quite good at sharp turns as well as in straight roads. The steering wheel is a bit sensitive and hence has to be taken care of.

Some Drawbacks:

Even though this 7 seater vehicle is a great performer, it does has its share of set backs. The plastic used for the interiors are not of very high quality. The vehicle has not been a very powerful one when it comes to driving in rocky and hilly areas.

The interiors are prone to scratches while loading and unloading and hence one must do so with utmost care.

Conclusion:

The bottom line is that for families searching for a maneuverable, fuel-efficient and roomy transportation vehicle, the Mazda Premacy would be an ideal choice. The vehicle gives a fun-to-drive feeling and is a great bet at a reasonable price.
