Lexus RX 450h

The Lexus RX 450h is an SUV like no other. When it comes to the word luxury, Lexus is certainly a name that comes to mind. For those who want most of the standard features and capabilities of an SUV, without sacrificing luxury, this is one of your best bets.

While many of the upper echelon names in car manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon and launched their own SUVs, the Lexus is still one that comes to mind when someone mentions a luxury SUV. Of course, you do get what you pay for and pay for what you get. So, with this name in vehicular elegance comes a steeper price point than some SUVs.

Just the Basic Facts about the Lexus RX 450h

The easiest thing to start with is the pricing on the standard RX 450h. The base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price on this Lexus depends on whether it is a four wheel drive or an all wheel drive. For the four wheel drive, the starting price is $44,735.

For the all wheel drive, the price jumps up to $46,325. So, while it is not as pricy as some SUVs, the more expensive ones usually do come with mush more power to get heavy-duty jobs done.

There are some features that come standard in both the four wheel drive and the all wheel drive versions of this Lexus SUV. You will get dual-zone automatic climate control, with interior air filter for either model. Either one also comes with cruise control.

For sound, both come with the Lexus nine speaker Premium Sound System with Automatic Sound Levelizer (ASL) and in-dash, single-feed, six-disc CD auto changer.

Compared to other SUVs that offer things of greater importance for just the standard package, it is surprising to see that Lexus has mentioned front and rear cup holders or power door locks as details to boast including, especially with the price tag attached.

Safety Features and Other Vital Details

Again, most of the details available for safety on the Lexus RX 450h are standard for both four wheel drive and all wheel drive. You get items such as the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with cutoff switch and Traction Control (TRAC). There are also four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes on both models.

Not to mention, there is also the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) system in place.

The power behind both models is the Atkinson cycle 60* V6, aluminum block and heads engine. You can feel good about driving either Lexus SUV because both received the Certified Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV II) rating. Acceleration is different, by a matter of 0.4 seconds when it comes to the 4 WD and the AWD RX 450h.

The AWD has 0-60 in 7.4 seconds, while the 4WD does 0-60 in 7.8 seconds. Certainly, that is not enough difference to get too concerned about.

Lexus RX 450h

The mileage is only slightly different, as well, for the two SUV versions of the Lexus. The 4WD gets the EPA fuel economy ratings of 32 for highway, 28 for cities and 30 for both. The AWD is close, as it gets 30 for highway, 28 for the city streets and 29 for a combination of both.

A Little More about the Inside and Out

For both the four wheel drive and all wheel drive editions of the RX 450h, the steering is the standard Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system.

As for the brakes, you#8217;ll get four-wheel, power-assisted discs with Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB), four sensor, four channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) Brake Assist and regenerative function. While much of this is standard on any make SUV today, it is good to see car companies realize they cannot cut safety and make it optional to offer a lower priced vehicle.

In Conclusion

This Lexus SUV gets praise for impressive fuel economy, utility and power, in addition to the obvious and expected luxury that comes with the Lexus name. Of course, one major complaint has been the price of the optional package add-ons. The standard package just isn#8217;t enough for many consumers, yet adding on the features, many of which are standard with competing SUVs, is too pricy.

Some feel it would be better to raise the MSRP but go ahead and add on those details competitors are already including in their standard SUV packages. The bottom line is if you want the power of a good size SUV and the comfort and elegance of a Lexus, the Lexus RX 450h is probably the perfect vehicle for your needs.
