Jaguar XF-R Review

If could kill, the XF-R be the Charles Manson of its class.

2010 Jaguar XF-R; supercharged V8, petrol; six-speed sedan- $208,450*

When pictures of the Jaguar XF came out, some fanatics were wondering had happened to the brand, the Jaguar knew had grown up, modernized and a new brand ready to take on the century.

A good three and a bit later and the range topping, XF-R with its 5.0-litre V8 has hit the sweet spot in Australia.

thing to point out with the is its subtleness. To those that their cars, the quad pipes, giant 20-inch and the R badging plus the modified bumper and bonnet will it away but to the rest, it simply like an XF on steroids.

Not that I can in today’s “fast-cars-…-the-polar-bears” world, one enjoy his desire for power and subtly. This is why all grown-up performance cars look subdued. Take the BMW M5 as a case in ask any person on the street that little about cars and never pick that it has a V10 the bonnet capable of propelling a at supercar speeds.

Of course in the XF-R’s case you have to step on the accelerator and within a 200M radius hear the sound of its supercharged V8 along. 0-100km/h is achieved in 4.9 (though it certainly feels than that), which is not as as I would have hoped for but the 100-150km/h that puts a on my face. It seems to want to go the more you push it.

The reason buy an XF-R or M5 or a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG is because it the best in performance with motoring. Whilst the Germans are in their approach, the Jaguar has character.

The Jaguar lacks the big brother computer that can what you should eat for dinner, it comes with a similar system as the one found in the new Land Discovery 4. As great as that you’d never want to it to your friends.

As a result the XF-R had similar issues as the Discovery 4. Fill it up empty with less 20L of fuel and it will take to update distance to empty. By the day when I plugged in my iPhone, it reset the Jag’s computer completely.

It would simply the R logo and then reset, and over and over again. As as I unplugged the iPhone, it would fine (for those an iPhone is just an iPod with phone functionality). I the car off, left it there and it still had the same issue the day. You have to wonder possible bug could cause a reset simply by plugging in an

It eventually fixed at a later

Despite its problems with the touch and iPhone, the XF-R’s Wilkins 440W stereo with Dolby® ProLogic® II sound coupled to 14 speakers is short of superb. Whether its or clarity you want, it has it all. I everything form Mozart to Van Buuren and the results were an dream.

The main reason you’d buy the over its naturally aspirated V8 is that extra 92kW and of torque. What that is an engine so responsive you’ll to alter your driving to accommodate for its mighty power

Of course if you drive it around in drive mode, it doesn’t in fact it can even be somewhat at times. Switch it form into sport mode, Dynamic Mode (chequered button) and the XF-R turns a beast ready to eat up anything of $200g.

Step on it and the engine to life, barking away as it relentless acceleration. I took it for a drive along the new section of the highway heading out of Brisbane and it for Autobahn style speed

It can get from 0 to whatever the speed is far too quickly. In fact you’ll find yourself using the set at 110km/h so that you don’t end up 150km/h in an 80 zone without

My praise for the XF-R isn’t for its straight line speed but the way it behind the wheel. A perfectly and very direct steering means an engaging drive twisty roads. Sure, it may a little too big to be doing tight at speed but given it weighs 1900kg you have to admire how it manages regardless.

Jaguar XF

Eating up those long kilometres behind the wheel of beast whilst listening to its 14 sound system easily it all worthwhile. But it’s only you’ve experienced this car at its glory that it makes sense. Switch all the go-fast on and all of sudden you’ve woken up the and it doesn’t want to argue, it wants to go very, very and trust me, so will you.

the steering wheel slightly and the throttle and the back will out on you just enough to make you like a retired Forumla 1 having some fun. The of control through the steering is M5 like to say the least.

During my with the XF-R I didn’t the usual set of comments that I get Jaguars of old. No one dared to ask me if was my old man’s car! It may take a few years for that old-men’s-car to fade but if there is any Jaguar that can do it, it’s the mighty

Besides, any ‘old men’ buy this are obviously young at

Sit inside and I dare you to find to complain about. The special R adjustable sports seats do a job of holding you in thanks to their adjustable squab bolsters. A soft grain leather comes standard (available in charcoal, warm charcoal/red warm charcoal/London tan, and meanwhile a new dark oak veneer is the finish for all wood-trimmed areas.

To you of its R goodness, all XF-R seats front and rear come the #8216;R#8217; logo embossed. The wheel also gets the R with its own #8216;R#8217; logo. are plenty of other R badges the cabin with one subtly on the passenger side of the instrument and more found on the tacho and

The satellite navigation linked up to the LCD controls the audio and the rest of the features can be a tad slow at times but it get the job done eventually (so long as you want to plug an iPhone it).

Overall the Jaguar XF-R is a worthy to both the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and BMW’s aging but to be replaced M5. It may be a tad slower and lack of the technological features of the other two but also considerably cheaper and with more character and looks than all its German put together.

For those not wanting to 200g+ on an XF-R, you’ll be to know the new 3.0-litre twin XF S diesel is a great choice if sub second acceleration times on the agenda. However I suspect looking at the XF-R want the of the best and that’s exactly you’ll get with the best ever made, the new 2010 XF-R.
