Hyundai reveals much awaited i15, christened #8216;Hyundai Grand i10#8242;; September 3 India launch!

Hyundai has revealed the much awaited new hatchback to accommodate the gap between Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20, called the #8216;Hyundai Grand i10#8242;. And yes, your wait for the diesel engine on Hyundai i10 is finally over, now that Hyundai Grand i10 will also sport a new peppy diesel engine too. The Hyundai Grand i10 would compete directly with other hatchbacks like Ford Figo, Chevrolet Sail U-VA, Honda Brio and the all-new Nissan Micra too.

Hyundai Grand i10 is basically a mash-up of design and engineering from various other Hyundai cars. Developed on the Hyundai BA platform, the Hyundai Grand i10 is lot better in terms of space, quality, equipments and other features. Basically, the car has more upmarket feeling than even the new Hyundai i10 would have.

The Grand Hyundai i10 would be lot more roomier than the Hyundai i10 due to the elongated wheelbase. The Hyundai Grand i10 is 100mm(3.9 inches) longer than the upcoming 2014 Hyundai i10. You won#8217;t have issues with the new and better improved cabin quality due to improved plastic and interior fit and finishing.

Plenty of features are offered in the new Hyundai Grand i10 including, height adjustable driver’s seat, cooled glove-box, electric ORVMs (automatically folding mirrors with turn signals), top-notch music system with Bluetooth support and 1GB internal memory, a multi-functional steering wheel, reverse-parking camera, and for the first time in this segment – rear air condition vents. In terms of safety features, the Grand will also sport ABS and airbags.

This new fluidic Hyundai Grand i10 has got still lot more to surprise you, especially talking about the engineering and build quality. Hyundai customers usually had complains about the steering wheel on the Hyundai i10, Hyundai i20 and the Hyundai Verna being too light and zippy, which was great for city driving but felt not very confident on highways. Well, the Hyundai Grand i10 won#8217;t let you complain the same.

The steering wheel is really zippy and responsive, useful ease in city driving as well as heavier and chunky even when driving at high speeds on highway, giving you confidence in the grip and handling. The same happiness is about the brilliant suspension here, the body roll is not way too much, just enough to let you know that you#8217;re having a nice zippy turn and also, the suspensions easily manage the typical Indian roads with potholes and speed breakers as well. They#8217;re soft where you need them to be but have the toughness exactly as needed too.

Now coming to the main thing, which is the most-exciting part, the engine choices, Hyundai has deployed two engines on offer with the new Hyundai Grand i10. First would be the 1.2L Kappa 2 petrol engine from the Hyundai i20 and the second would be the all-new, 2nd generation 1.1L 3-cylinder U2 CRDi diesel engine with turbo charging  generating 75PS power output and 152Nm of torque. The diesel engine is surprisingly refined and quiet.

You won#8217;t feel it to be cheap looking at the thing that this would be an affordable small car. We already do know the much admired 1.2L Kappa  2 engine.

Coming to the new diesel engine, the engine response is really good, especially the concern about the small diesel engines having turbo-lag or acceleration problem won#8217;t be much of an issue with this one. The gear-ratio is perfect for city driving and you could get decent pick-up accelerating even at 1200rpm. The diesel engine has brilliant low-end and mid-end torque but diminishes at the high-end torque, the purpose behind such a tweak is obviously good fuel-efficiency.

So don#8217;t expect this diesel engine to be your highway cruiser but sure it doesn#8217;t break its promise on decent acceleration and easiness in city driving even at low-end torque. The Hyundai Grand i10 would come with 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 4-speed automatic transmission too, but for the petrol engine variant only. The manual variants will come in four versions – Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O), while the automatic will only be sold in the Sportz trim.

The Hyundai Grand i10 is really about to make some really high jumps in the Hyundai#8217;s sales figures here once it#8217;s launched. Expect the pricing to be around INR 4-5.5 lac. The pricing and all detailed information would be revealed on September 3, that#8217;s when the car will be launched in India.
