With a new Nissan Qashqai likely to land on UK shores in 2014, there are some significant savings to be had on the current model if you know where to look.

The Nissan Qashqai has been an enormous success flying out of showrooms so quickly that it has long been one of the UK’s bestselling cars. The Qashqai was one of the first crossovers to hit the UK, blending the best of hatchback and 4×4 features into a compact footprint. It is also available in a longer, seven seat version, the Qashqai+2, for those who need an extra two seats for children.

The Qashqai is well equipped for the money and is also easy to drive and safe, making it a good family car. Buyers have the option of two or four-wheel drive models and engines range from a 1.5-litre diesel to 2.0-litre petrol and diesel motors. Residual values are also strong meaning that the Qashqai makes a sound purchase new, as you’re likely to get a good percentage of your money back when you come to sell it on – especially if you can find savings of over £4,500 if you shop around.

Frugal Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi for just £17,441

This mid-range Nissan Qashqai is fitted with an economical 1.6-litre diesel engine that returns an impressive official fuel economy figure of 62.8mpg (although it used significantly more fuel than this in our own more realistic economy tests), and it is reasonably sprightly too, accelerating to 62mph in 10.3 seconds. Thanks to a £3,799 discount from Nationwide Cars you can pick up the Qashqai 1.6 dCi Acenta for £17,441.

Acenta specification includes lots of kit, such as rear parking sensors, automatic lights and wipers, cruise control with a speed limiter function and dual zone air conditioning. The wing mirrors also fold electrically to help you squeeze through tight gaps and you can plug your MP3 player into the car and play songs through the speakers.

£4,600 savings on seven seater Nissan Qashqai+2

If you want an extra two seats, you’ll need the Qashqai+2. While the rearmost seats are small, they are OK for children, and the second row of seats slides back and forth so you can choose between legroom and boot space. This Qashqai 2.0 dCi Tekna has 4WD to get you through winter snow plus an automatic gearbox for easy driving around town.

This model features a touch screen satellite navigation system, a 360 degree parking system with colour front, rear and passenger side cameras, heated leather seats and xenon headlights. It also has a panoramic glass roof to brighten up the interior.

With a price tag of £23,859 you can save yourself £4,601 on the list price of this model.  Thanks to its 2.0-litre diesel engine this Qashqai accelerates to 62mph in 11.6 seconds, though the 4WD system and automatic gearbox reduce the official fuel economy figure to a mediocre 40.9mpg. If you don’t need an automatic gearbox, the identically equipped and similarly quick 1.6 dCi Tekna 4WD is available for £22,720; officially it returns a more palatable 53.3mpg.

The car brokers and deals featured are not vetted, endorsed or recommended by Which. Always check the specifics of the deal so you know exactly what you are getting and who is supplying the car. Make sure all aspects of the deal are confirmed in writing before committing to buy.

Not all brokers deal in UK sourced vehicles, and this may have an impact on standard equipment and warranty levels.

The term ‘pre-reg’ or ‘pre-registered’ refers to vehicles that are brand new but already registered with the DVLA. This means that you will appear as the second owner on the V5 registration document.

Beware of unscrupulous brokers who tell you they will have to retain the V5 registration document for a period of time after your purchase of the car. Vehicles sold this way may be cheap, but there are legal implications, including the risk that you the buyer could be committing a criminal offence when you drive the car, so they should be avoided.
