Japan Trip Day 8

Today was quite productive.  We made it to three major landmarks!

Shurijo Castle Park

Shikinaen Royal Garden

Okinawa Glass Factory

It was a pretty full day, but we had a lot of fun.  Despite all the running around and messing with his schedule that we are doing, Harrison is holding up famously well.  He has even been very happy and giggly.

  What fun!

Here are pictures from the Shurijo Castle, which was the seat of the Ryukyu Kingdom#8230;the original leaders of Okinawa.  There were some beautiful gardens.

Harrison is a big fan of dragons.

This is me trying to not make angry eyes on a sunny day.  I clearly failed by making scary eyes instead#8230;.

Erm.  The number of pictures I take in the bathrooms here is probably a little disturbing, but seriously?!  How could you not love this stuff?

That faucet is in the shape of some animal / dragon thing.  Awesome!

Harrison would be a good and gracious king.  It is all seen in this picture.

Next, we made our way over to the Shikinaen Royal Gardens, which was apparently the King#8217;s summer cottage#8230;or something like that.  There was a very large traditional home on the property.  It really was quite extensive.  I think it said there were 15 rooms in there.

And then there were awesome gardens#8230;of course.

There were tons of turtles just basking in the sun.  A couple minutes after taking this picture, we heard a ton of stones-being-dropped-in-water sounds and we looked back and saw a caretaker walking in the direction of the turtles and them plopping right into the water.

  It was so cute!

I love trees with their root systems above ground like this.  Sure, killer tripping hazard, but also awesome to look at!

Aren#8217;t these parking stalls totally awesome. Each place is paved with pretty pavers and grass.

I didn#8217;t take any pictures at the glass factory, but it was cool to see the guys work blowing glass.  Some other random pictures from the road:

An awesome tree house restaurant that you access through a spiral staircase (on the left side).  Totally random, but pretty cool!

Lots of the cars here have weird names, but this may be one of my favorites of all.  The car#8217;s name is a #8220;That#8217;s#8221;.  Erm.  Yeah.  What does that even mean?!  Pretty funny.

Also, can I just tell you how weird it is to ride in the location of the driver and not be driving?!   And also to drive on the left side of the road?  It is totally unnatural.

When we go through intersections, I#8217;m always freaked out that we#8217;re going the wrong direction, but then everything is fine.  Back up in Tokyo it was always difficult to cross the street because I never really knew which way to look.  It is a pretty interesting change to adopt.

I love my sister#8217;s dogs, Aki and Senchi.  They keep following me around and pretty much jumping into my lap as soon as I sit down.  I guess it is a little annoying at times, but they are just so sweet and cuddly it is hard to be annoyed for long.  I love that they are so sweet and loving.  They always just give me kisses every now and then.

They love me so much!  I love them too.  This is a photo of us blogging together.  Cute!

ps. Have you ever been to a country where they drive on the opposite side of the road?  Did it totally freak you out too?
