Question

QUESTION: The car has automatic 1.8 engine twin carburators. the car started it was hard to keep it and would not run without patting the pedal for about 4 minutes(until heated up) then it would down.

The two wires(black and red) from the air temperature sensor disconnected from the harness and the two on the harness were connected and now the car starts up and runs immediately.

The is that the engine will to run at fast idle even the engine heats up. It will not down.

I would appreciate it if you would let me what you think the defective is/are or what other it could possibly be. Thanking Frank

ANSWER: Frank,

check the thermo-valve that is in the coolant passage. I’m certain it is at the thermostat housing on the The thermovalve should open or as the coolant warms up. Basically, it is a switch that either allows vacuum to flow or stops the flow.

The other end of the line will be routed to a that pulls on the choke. works together with the spring in the electric choke

QUESTION: Good afternoon

Ref. 1985 Honda twin carbs:

The following been checked out and are in good order:

Base Plate

Electric Choke

Choke Diaphram

Thermo Valve

All vacuum lines are in excellent

Everything is hooked up correctly but problem still remains.

the car is started I have to continuously pat the pedal for 4-5 minutes until the warms up. When the engine up the idle levels off at about rpm. When the idle is turned to where it idles at 800 rpm the car perfectly when hot.

When the car is shut off and restarted cold with the idle at the 800 rpm setting, it is harder to keep the running until it warms up but it warms up it idles and runs

My major problem it getting the idle to function properly … cold. Please as to what your thoughts are on problem. Many thanks to Frank

ANSWER: Try carefully the surrounding areas with a type carb. spray. you have a vacuum leak is sealing up after the under temps are warm.

How did you check the thermo-valves?

How did you adjust the The only accurate way of adjusting the is to use a gas analyzer.

Let’s not overlook the things like spark heat range, valve rotor button condition, cam and base timing. Fresh too!

Another easy would be the engine thermostat. One of the race cars I sponsor had poor engine performance. the car owner replaced the thermostat I previously recommended) the car ran much

QUESTION: Good morning

Thanks for your reply and I to ask for clarification on something please:

1.If you were checking the how would you do it?

2.You lost me on the about adjusting the mixture and a gas analyzer to do it.Please fill me in on

We are very close to getting the prelude right and the only

evident problem is getting the to run when started from cold. As mentioned, after 4-5 minutes of patting the gas pedal my foot it levels off and idles The car drives very good, hesitates going up a steep road or on a straight road it 75 mph.

Getting it to run when it is first is the hair pulling problem. We are so and yet so far away from having it

Would appreciate your and thank you again for your Frank

Answer

A gas analyzer is a machine. In an earlier question I the thermovale inspection

The thermovalve open or close as the coolant up. Basically, it is a vacuum switch either gradually allows to flow or gradually stops the
