Curbside Classic For Sale: Mercedes 230C #8211; If You There#8217;s A Couple Of Questions Like Answered

February 1,

I just shot this two ago on my walk, and those two hours have been filled to figure out the puzzle this car Yes, it#8217;s a European which explains why it#8217;s a cylinder stick-shift 230C. But I have a couple of questions for the starting with this Why did you toss your orange in the street?

That might be fairly to answer. This is the one that#8217;s me. It says 230CE on the back. But was no 230 CE until 1980.

The old M115 four that had its roots way way in 1955 was never fuel (E = Einspritzer); and the new injected M102 didn#8217;t replace it until

So maybe this isn#8217;t a 1977, as the owner alleges. that crossed my mind, and might have been a reason for that. Maybe it was to be older than it really is in to get around federal import or something like that.

The real W123 230CE arrive until 1980, so this is from 1980 or

But there#8217;s a problem with theory too. I couldn#8217;t but notice that this has genuine walnut burl instead of the cheaper zebrano used on the sedans. Here#8217;s my German bailed me out: I want really good I head to the German wikipedia and sure enough, they had the The W123 coupe did use walnut but only though the 1979 year.

By the way, that (dirty) upholstery is typical Euro-spec. The MB Tex vinyl was almost only for US-bound cars; Germans touch it, literally. And even was highly uncommon in Germany very late in the great Wave. Cloth, or more a finely-trimmed velour in nicer was the default in Krautmobiles until recently.

That includes the most S-Class sedans.

Back to the at hand: I#8217;m going to that it#8217;s more the badge on the trunk was replaced than the wood in the dash. would make this a 230C, with the carbureted 2.3L four, which all of 109 PS (about 111 HP) at a very modest rpm. A taxi motor, if wanted a gas MB taxi.

And I just remembered one more who in the hell would put such wire wheel covers on a handsome car?
