The Citroen C6 is produced since 2005.

There are only two engines to choose from. The 3.0-liter petrol and 2.7-liter turbodiesel. The petrol unit is not as punchy as you might expect.

The diesel accelerates faster, is more flexible and consumes less fuel, so it is a far superior choice. Both engines are coupled with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Citroen C6 has a unique suspension. It uses gas spheres rather than steel springs. Such suspension is optimized for comfort, and the C6 rides softer than all of tis rivals, but don’t expect superb body control.

Steering is ultra-light as well.

The C6 is an extremely refined car. Engines are cultured and quiet. The only noise present at the motorway speed comes from the windscreen wipers.

However there is some road noise going over rough surfaces.

This car is expensive, considering that it is a Citroen. Servicing is expensive, while the running costs are high too. But the main concern about the C6 is it’s resale value.

Engines are proven, but it it too early to talk about the reliability of the complex suspension.

Inside the car everything is a big step forward for a Citroen, but it is still not on the same league with it’s German rivals. Materials and fabrics used inside the cabin are nice. There are some delightful touches as well, but the control layout is confusing.

Steering wheel and driver’s seat both have plenty of adjustments, so drivers of all shapes and sizes will get themselves comfortable. It is worth mentioning that the seat has power adjustments, but manually adjusted steering wheel do not corresponds with the car’s class. Driver has a good all-round visibility, but the vast dimensions of the car make parking complicated without the parking sensors.

There is plenty of space inside the C6 for the rear accommodation, however tall passengers might find it restricted due to the sloping roofline. Boot space was limited by the fastback body style. However split-folding rear seats add some versatility.

The Citroen C6 is one of the safest cars in this class. It received a maximum 5-star Euro NCAP crash tests rating for occupants protection and a maximum 4-star rating for the pedestrian safety. The C6 comes with nine airbags, anti-lock brakes and stability control as standard.

Security kit has all the essentials.

The C6 comes fully loaded with all the luxury equipment you would expect from a car with this kind of a price tag. However some items such as keyless entry and starting are not available even as an options.

Production of the Citroen C6 still continues.

Advantages: A stylish alternative to German executive cars. Fine V6 engines and very comfortable ride.

Disadvantages: Expensive to buy and to run, pricey servicing and poor residual value.

Verdict: Buy it for it’s looks.

Also consider: BMW 5-series. Mercedes-Benz E-class.
