Chrysler PT Cruiser

The Chrysler PT Cruiser, a compact four-door hatchback wagon with a design that is reminiscent of panel trucks of the past, was produced for model years 2001 to 2010. Chrysler also offered a two-door convertible from 2005 through 2008.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Origins

Built on the platform created for the Neon, the PT Cruiser has a look that turns heads and the convenient cargo space of a wagon.

Originally equipped with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine and a five-speed manual transmission, the Chrysler PT Cruiser offers EPA estimates of 18/24 mpg city/highway.

About the Chrysler PT Cruiser

The PT Cruiser is built higher than the average wagon, offering back-seat passengers ample headroom. If you have cargo to haul, the 65/35-split folding rear seat can be removed to provide 76 cubic feet of cargo space. In addition, the front passenger seat can be folded down to enable the hauling of long objects with the rear hatch closed.

The interior of the PT cruiser features power windows, front bucket seats, power steering, an adjustable/tilt steering wheel, front console, intermittent wipers, air-conditioning, and an AM/FM/CD audio system with six speakers. The Limited Edition PT Cruiser features leather front seats, fog lamps, front side-impact airbags, an overhead console, a power moonroof, cruise control, remote keyless entry, and power locks.

The Chrysler PT Cruiser offers drivers an affordable car option with ample cargo space and a fun driving experience.

The government classifies the PT Cruiser as a truck for CAFÉ (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. When registering the vehicle, you may need to register it as a truck instead of as a passenger car.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Features

The Chrysler PT Cruiser Dream Cruiser 3 was available in model year 2004. Chrysler only manufactured 7500 Dream Cruisers. The model houses a 2.4-liter, 220 hp engine and a five-speed manual transmission.

Seating four, it comes equipped with a 2.4-liter, 150 hp, four-cylinder engine and a manual transmission. The 2010 Chrysler PT comes equipped with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine and a four-speed automatic transmission; no other engine or transmission options are available. EPA mileage estimates are 19/24 mpg city/highway.

The 2010 Chrysler PT Cruiser is available in only one trim level, as it marks the vehicle’s final year of production. The Classic trim level includes some upgrades introduced in past models. Power steering, power brakes, power locks, air-conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, keyless entry, fog lights, a rear spoiler, a trip computer, and 16-inch alloy wheels are all among the standard equipment.

Anti-lock disc brakes and traction control come standard.

Options include the fold-flat front passenger seat, heated front seats, a sunroof, and an AM/FM/CD/Satellite audio system with four speakers and an auxiliary audio jack.

Storage space totals 63 cubic feet when the rear seat is removed.

Chrysler PT Cruiser Evolution

Chrysler introduced the PT Cruiser to the U.S. market in 2001, and the Touring and Limited editions followed in 2002. The following year the GT was made available, followed by the Dream Cruiser 3, in 2004, featuring custom color, a leather interior, and chrome accents and wheels.

In 2005, Chrysler began offering the PT Cruiser Convertible. Then, in 2006, updated the interior and exterior of the models, improving the GT’s horsepower to 230. The following year, remote keyless entry and electric liftgates were introduced to all models.

2008 saw the release of the Sunset Boulevard Edition of the car, and the discontinuation of the GT model. In 2009, Chrysler discontinued the Convertible model and removed the turbocharged engine from the Touring Edition.
