Problems

Fuel System

In May of 2009, a problem was found with the fuel system of many GM-manufactured vehicles. GM issued a recall of 27,000 vehicles, including Escalades, Avalanches, Suburbans and several other models. The problem involved adhesive separation of the Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) seal and the housing unit. This problem could potentially lead to water leaking into the fuel system control.

Water within the area could short a circuit, resulting in problems with the engine running correctly.

Electrical System

Sometimes recalls involve not just thousands of vehicles, but millions. The latest recall of Suburbans involved their electrical systems. In June of 2010, more than 1,300,000 vehicles were recalled, including Suburbans and the majority of other models manufactured by GM. The problem lay in the heat washer fluid system (HWFS) module. A 2008 recall involving a fuse issue led to a further problem with a thermal protection feature, which led to the need for the most recent recall.

The problem, if ignored, could result a melting of the plastic surrounding the HWFS, posing an increased fire hazard.
