Shift Issue | 1993 Lumina | 4T60E

This Chevrolet Lumina came in a transmission shifting complaint. The had a transmission issue and had a used installed. After the installation the still wasn#8217;t shifting I verified the complaint on a test and found that this car had no 1st or 4th

With the scan tool up, I looked for any set codes and none found. My next step was to the transmission fluid level, was correct.

My next test was to use the tool and try to command shift A, shift solenoid B, and the TCC solenoid listening for an audible click. I only hear the TCC solenoid According to the wire diagram, the TCC has it#8217;s own power on pin A and both solenoids share a power on pin E. like we have a power to pin E. I pulled off the connector at the transmission and both halves of the connector for any or damage.

Then I tested for power on pin A and E. pins had power. Now knowing I had power at pin E I, had to do further testing.

the transmission connector still I used my test light battery positive to both solenoid control terminals (F and G) commanding both solenoids my scan tool. My test lit up when commanding each solenoid. I now know that my side and ground side are correctly and that the problem is I hooked my low amp probe around the solenoids power wire and both solenoids just to and see if I had any shorted solenoids.

I found that there was no flowing through either of the solenoid circuits.

At this point I either a broken wire, backed out unplugged connector, two bad shift or a combination of two problems behind the side cover. I then to remove the side cover to inside. What I found wasn#8217;t what I expected. the cover off I found a few extra and a few items missing. In 1993 were 2 different 4T60E

The old design and the new design. This car was to have the old design but the used that was installed was the new design.

The old design had shift solenoids A and B, TCC and 1st and 4th gear pressure switches. The new also has shift solenoids A and B, and a TCC It does not have any pressure and also has a TCC PWM solenoid and temp

Only the TCC command terminal was the The TCC solenoid was also able to power on this car but if the transmission was the opposite (car that is to have new style trans but had old installed), it would not have had This is why the TCC worked when with the scan tool.

This car needed the right installed.
