Overall Review

General Motors is gleaming with pride over it’s soon to arrive global launch – 2012 Chevrolet Captiva . It’s a season of all smiles for GM India as it has given quite impressive facelift to this SUV with exclusive exteriors and chic interiors. Under the bonnet, 2012 Chevrolet Captiva SUV will feature 2.2 litre of diesel engine that has a 16-valve twin-cam high-pressure motor, 1800-bar fuel-injection system and lowered compression ratio.

This highly dynamic and responsive engine will churn out maximum power of 185 BHP. On the outside, the SUV will feature attractive tail lights and almost same rear profile as the current one while the side and front profile of the car will be completely renovated with no resemblance to previous version. On the inside, the interiors of the 2012 Chevrolet Captiva will be refreshed and it would feature dual cockpit design just like Chevrolet Beat and Cruze.

On the safety front, the new Chevrolet Captiva will sport Brake Assist System, traction control system, electronic stability control, hill start assist and dual front SRS airbags and so on.

Mileage and Fuel Economy

The 2.2-litre diesel plunked in the 2012 Chevrolet Captiva will be powered by the twin-cam 16-valve motor. It operates on 1800-bar fuel-injection system that delivers precise control of combustion. This reduces fuel wastage and increases the fuel economy.

The compression ratio has been also lowered to reduce exhaust emissions.

The new 2012 Chevrolet Captiva will be offered in wide variety of colors, including Linen Beige, Kandinsky Red, Poly Silver and Granada Black.

Acceleration and Pick up

2012 Chevrolet Captiva will undergo a heavy facelift to induce more muscle and make up for everything that wasn’t there earlier. In the new Captiva, the more aggressive front grille is split in two parts in a unique style with a Chevvy logo sitting in between. The headlamps are broader and make their presence felt just as it should be in a SUV.

The fog lamps are neatly housed to complement the entire front look. Jumping on the bandwagon, the turn indicators are integrated into the rear view mirrors. The side air vents are re-sculptured and window lines chromed.

The front and side look of the new Captiva will be fresh and but sadly the rear look will remain largely untouched and dull.

Comfort Feature

The 2012 Chevrolet Captiva will retain the same 7 seat configuration and interior design with the exception of front instrument panel which is chiseled to give sportier and trendy feel. It will be embedded with advanced seven inch screen for GPS navigation and separated speedo and tacho meters for enhanced readability. There will be a small switch at the base of the center console to control electronically operated parking brake.

The space occupied previously by handbrake lever will be given to sliding dual cup holders. The plastic quality looks improved but there’s still scope for betterment. The music system will also be upgraded.

When compared to old Captiva, the new one obviously seems hell lot improved and more comfortable but considering the other SUVs standing in the same segment Chevrolet Captiva still needs a lot more to survive competition.

Chevrolet Captiva

The new Chevrolet Captiva SUV will be a seven seater SUV maintaining a length of 4660 mm, width of 1870 mm and height of 1755 mm. The wheelbase of 2705 mm and the ground clearance of 197 mm are impressive as well.

The brand new Chevrolet Captiva SUV facelift won’t be just skin deep. It will be complemented with huge changes under the hood as evident by the strappy and brawny 2.2 litre diesel engine which will be fitted in new Captiva. This twin-cam, 16-valve engine gets a high-pressure motor, 1800-bar fuel-injection system for more precise control of combustion and lowered compression ratio to reduce exhaust emissions.

This 2.2 diesel engine will come in two variations. The first one is 163bhp engine available only for the front wheel drive. The second and more powerful one 184bhp version will be available in both two-wheel and four-wheel-drive versions.

In addition to the six-speed manual gearbox, there will be six-speed auto gearbox as well. The noise levels are impressively low even on high speed.

Globally Chevrolet Captiva 2012 will offer one more engine- 3.0 litre V6 petrol engine developing a lusty 258bhp . However, given the hike in petrol prices in India this big petrol consuming motor is not expected to make it to Indian showrooms.

General Motors India is putting all its heart and soul to make 2012 Chevrolet Captiva an SUV worth dying for. To make this SUV more power-packed and splendid, the car will feature 7J X 17 inches of alloy wheels along with a 6.5 J X 16 steel spare whee l. The 17 inches of alloy wheels give the car a much robust and aggressive look. The wheel arches are perfect and flawless and fit these alloy wheels without any trouble.
