Overall Evaluation of the Chevrolet Aveo

The Chevrolet Aveo is an entry level sedan that was rolled-out in the Indian market in year 2005.The India launch of Aveo followed its commercial success in General Motors’ base market, US, where the car was introduced in year 2003. The American beauty borrows most of its styling cues from Daewoo Kalos as it has been developed at a joint platform of Korean car maker Daewoo and US auto giant GM.

The Aveo model has been appreciated by car experts for a long time, but now the car seems to be losing its charm against a range of new generation cars of this segment including Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Indigo CS, Volkswagen Vento and recently unveiled Toyota Etios sedan. In a bid to boost its moderate sales, the company recently launched a CNG version of this car that has met with good response from the buyers in the country.

Engine Specifications of the Chevrolet Aveo

The car is offered in two petrol engine options including a 1.4L, 16-valve, 4-Cylinder In-line engine and a more powerful 1.6L engine with same number of valves and cylinders. Both of the Aveo engines come mated with a sophisticated five speed manual transmission gearbox. On the power front, where the 1.4L engine is capable to churn-out a peak power of 94PS with 128Nm of maximum torque, the bigger 1.6L engine outpours 102PS of maximum power at 149Nm of peak torque.

The Multi Point Fuel Injection system has been used in both of the engines that ensure a powerful performance on Indian roads. The recently launch CNG version has been offered with the 1.4L engine.

Interior, Exterior Safety of Chevrolet Aveo

The car has been designed by the famous Italdesign Giugiaro Design Studio, in Italy. The exterior has been made sleekly urban with the help of no-frills contours and fascinating crisp. From a distance of few steps, the car looks rock-solidly aerodynamic.

The features like radio antenna (printed into the rear glass) and chrome door handles enhances the grace even further.

From inside, the car looks even younger, thanks to its elegantly refined cabin and new age instrumentation, satin-chrome accents and a unique wood-grain-style trim. The interior goes further sporty with the help of a 3 pod instrument cluster (chrome accented) and theater style seating. On the safety front, Aveo comes blessed with a range of remarkable safety features including high-strength steel structure, tailor-welded blanks and Antilock-braking system (optional).

Performance of Chevrolet Aveo

Blessed with state-of-art GM technology, the Chevrolet Aveo performs considerably well in the Indian road conditions. Where the 1.4L engine takes 13.42 seconds to break the 100 km/h speed barrier, the 1.6L engine proves a bit faster and crosses the 100 km/h speed mark in just 12.43 seconds. Though the acceleration and pickup cherestrictics of this car are class-leading, when it comes to fuel economy, Aveo loses the battle from many of its highly fuel efficient competitors like Swift Dzire and Etios.

While the mileage of 1.4L engine falls in the range of 10.5 to 15.0 km/l, the 1.6L variant offers the fuel economy in the range of 9.8 to 14.2 km/l. Thus, for the buyers who give more preference to power in a car should consider the 1.6L variant. But the more power come with more burning of fuel; thus for those who are mileage freak, the 1.4L engine would be better.

Price of Chevrolet Aveo

The Aveo is available in the price bracket of a bit over Rs 6 lacs to 7.3 lacs (Delhi ex-showroom).
