Porsche 944 Coupe – review and opinion – Porsche 944 – The cheapest car on the road!

Porsche 944 – The cheapest car on the road! The extravagant claim in the title is based on the fact that these cars no longer depreciate noticeably, and can be driven on classic insurance. They are also very long lived and generally reliable, and don’t do too badly on fuel. Essentially you can run an old Porsche for a fraction of the cost of a new Mondeo! The text below describes the features, weaknesses, and benefits of the 944 model variations. First a bit of history. The Porsche 944 was introduced in 1983 based largely on the earlier 924 model. However the 944 included many changes and upgrades compared to the earlier model, the most obvious visual clue being the flared ...

Customer Reviews 4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful compilation of 968 press July 11, 2004 A compilation of BW reprints of Porsche 968 reviews; probably every significant one printed in US or Europe in the car’s life. All the print is in black and white. Only US and British magazines seem to be excerpted, but if other publications were in here I wouldn’t know how to identify them. No reproductions from Porsche-specialist pubs like Excellence or Panorama. It’s interesting to see reviewer’s takes on this car throughout the model’s life. As a group they seem to be determined not to like it- perhaps this is how they see their jobs as critics. Upon introduction the 968 ...

The rear wheel hubs may be prone to failure under certain driving conditions. Also, the original, suggested maintenance intervals may be insufficient to prevent wheel hub failure. If the rear hub fails, there may be a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Porsche will notify owners, and dealers will replace the wheel hubs on the rear axle free of charge. The service interval specifications will also be revised and provided to ...

1967 Porsche 911 R – Images, Specifications and Information

Considering the 911’s competition record, it is hard to imagine today that it took Porsche four years to develop the first real racing version of the six-cylinder engined car and then abandoned it after only a handful of examples were built because the sales department feared the 500 examples necessary for homologation could never be sold. Although now forced to run in the prototype class, the 911 R still showed its worth both in rallies and on record runs. Before creating the 911 R, Porsche did offer substantial support to customers who wanted to take their 911 circuit racing or rallying. A special kit to improve the performance of the flat six engine proved particularly useful. Even ...

Road test: 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel | Driving

Diesel the right move for big SUV SMALL Considering the agricultural nature of the last Porsche oil burner — the Porsche diesel tractors produced between 1956 and 1963 — the subsequent attempt is far more luxurious (and less breezy). For the 2013 model year, North America finally got the turbodiesel-powered Cayenne that had been plying the roads of Europe for the past four years, providing Porsche with a formidable lineup that includes naturally aspirated V6s and V8s, a turbocharged V8 and a hybrid powertrain. For any Porschephiles out there aghast at the thought of a diesel-powered product bearing the hallowed Porsche name and crest, tough! The 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel makes the most ...

Jeff McCabe’s 1984 Porsche 928

1984 Porsche 928 I am doing a race car type conversion to keep the weight down as much as possible. Running clutchless drive, with motor mounted in the front. Road Test: Porsche Carrera GT

Road Test: Porsche Carrera GT Porsche’s background is very strongly rooted in motorsport. But while cars like the 959 and GT1 were constrained by their 911 heritage, no such parameters hindered the evolution of the Carrera GT, which was as blue sky a road going supercar project as any design team could wish for. That said, Porsche has never denied that the Carrera GT concept was derived from the ‘what might have been’ idea for a new Le Mans challenger whose budget was channelled into the commercially astute Cayenne project instead. In 2003, Porsche boss, Wendelin Wiedeking announced that Porsche required at least 1,000 firm orders for the Carrera GT to be a credible business case. That ...
