MG ZT & ZT-T 260 – The MG Owners’ Club

MG ZT ZT-T 260 2003 MG ZT ZT-T 260 V8 Introduced 2003 – 2005 number built 883 (Inc Rover 75 V8) The MG ZT 260 may appear to be just another subordinate model in the MG ZT range, but this is a car that has undergone very substantial development to arrive at this production level. Hitherto it has been a transverse engine, front wheel drive range, but the 260 was re-engineered to a longitudinally mounted, in line, V8 with rear wheel drive. In this form, the engine displaces 4.6 litres and delivers a lazy but extremely effective 260bhp allied to a stump pulling 410Nm of torque. The engine and gearbox originates from the Ford Mustang GT 2004 model year specification and uses a cast iron ...

MG TF – Review – MG TF

MG TF Advantages: Great car to drive Disadvantages: Poor build quality The problem with British manufacturing is that we haven’t got a clue how to manufacture quality products. No one it seems takes pride in their work anymore. Our guys go to work in the morning and the impression given is that after about 5 tea breaks the average bloke will then start thinking about what to do. In that time a worker in Germany would probably have already done the equivalent of one hour of a British workman’s day. Four years ago I decided to get rid of my Renault Laguna and buy a new car. Up to that point it was probably one of the best cars I’d owned. Before that I’d had ...

MGF Cars – The MG Owners’ Club

MGF Cars Built 1995 – 2002 / facelift 1999 / production end 2002 with 77,269 MGF cars produced Introduced in 1995 to worldwide acclaim, the MGF car heralded the return of MG to volume two-seat sports car production that the marque vacated with the close of Abingdon in October 1980. It was created using novel design and a very considerable degree of ingenuity on the part of engineers whom with little or no budget from Rover management. What the car has achieved and its longevity is a testimony to the success of the work of those engineers. Initially available In September 1995 as just a single model with a 120ps 1796cc K series engine, the first use of a K series of this capacity, and ...

LoLarm II – MG F – The Dilemma

MG F – The Dilemma In the May edition of EM I wrote an article extolling the virtues of the MGC. How come then that I now also own an MGF? Like many MG enthusiasts I have had a ‘remote’ interest in the ‘F’ since its introduction in late 1995. However, I have never had the intention of actually buying one. I drove a VVC in 1989, it was a hot day and with the top down I remember enjoying the experience. Getting back into my MGC Roadster I knew I owned the more enjoyable car, but was I just biased thinking that? That was my only ‘flirtation’ with an ‘F’ until February this year when I unexpectedly became an ‘F’ owner. The ‘F’ has now been around for 11 years, ...

Science&Technology: American Dental Association

Fluoride levels in OTC products In 2011, when the Department of Health and Human Services proposed changing its recommendation for the level of fluoride in optimally fluoridated municipal water to 0.7 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride ion (F), part of the consideration was the amount of fluoride received from all sources, including over-the-counter (OTC) products. This has given rise to a frequently asked question from ADA member dentists: how much fluoride is in a tube of toothpaste? We know that 1000 ppm equals 1.0 mg F/ml and 1100 ppm equals 1.1 mg F/ml. The size of toothpaste tubes is given in fluid ounces (oz), and there are approximately 30 ml/oz. Therefore: Utilizing those figures, ...

MG TF road tests and car reviews

MG TF consumer car reviews Philip Greenwood, Wiltshire MG TF TF160 Trophy Blue 2002 My wife had an MGF non-VVC and loved it, but unfortunately I wrote it off on the M25 by hitting the central reservation (dozy and jet lagged coming home from our LA wedding). We bought a replacement with the insurance money (another Non-VVC MGF) and it wasn’t as nice to drive. Too light steering and weird handling. Turned out to be the rubbish tyres, and my wife pirouetted that one into a field which would have been OK, but there was a telegraph pole (in the field) which bannana’d the car somewhat. Nearly a write off, but not quite. Got shot of it after a short while afterwards because it drank ...

SOTW: MG ZS 180 – PistonHeads

SOTW: MG ZS 180 Interior dated but suitably sporty This most intriguing of modern MGs traces it roots back to 1995 when Rover launched the 400, a car with as little apparent athletic potential as the septuagenarians who would inevitably covet it. The 400 (which later became the 45) was co-developed with Honda, however, and it boasted double-wishbone front and independent rear suspension. One can imagine a rogue engineer offering up the 2.5-litre KV6 to a 45’s engine bay after-hours, barely suppressing his squeal of excitement when he realised that it would fit. Although the KV6 had until that point served duty in automatic Rover 800s, its potential was plain to see. 180hp at 6,500rpm ...

MG ZT XPOWER 500

500 HORSEPOWER MG ZT XPOWER V8 MG has today (July 2) unveiled another Extreme model – MG ZT XPower 500 – one of a number of Extreme MG cars that have been produced to demonstrate the strength, potential and very soul of their outrageous ability. MG Extreme vehicles are individual developments, not intended for series production, but developed from prototypes to illustrate the integrity and extremities of the chassis and powertrain engineering, with each one outrageously powerful and road legal. The MG ZT XPower 500 comes just weeks after the company revealed an equally powerful MG F XPower 500, but this time the power is produced from a muscular V8, producing 500Ps and combined with ...
