Canadian billionaire Lawrence pays record US$27.5 for rare Ferrari at U.S.

LOS ANGELES — A rare 1967 owned by an orphan-turned-millionaire was sold at a auction for US$27.5 million and reports say the buyer is Canadian Lawrence Stroll.

The fashion who helped develop the Tommy clothing brand in the 1990s, owns more than 20 Ferraris, as well as a race near Mont Tremblant, to drive them on.

The US$27.5 million is a record for a car at auction in the United States and in the world to the US$29.7 million for a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 by Juan Manuel Fangio.

The red 275 GTB/4*S N.A.R.T. Spider was one of 10 ever built, and its single-family increased interest in the sale, the Los Times reported .

N.A.R.T. stands for North Racing Team, a Ferrari-backed created in the late 1950s to the brand in the U.S.


The sale was by RM Auctions in Monterey.

The owner, the Eddie Smith, was a former of Lexington, N. C. He died in 2007 at age 88. then, the car has been stored in a built garage.
