Bugatti EB 110

In the late 1980s new powerful, extraordinary car appeared in Bugatti model row and it differed very much from classic forms of Bugatti models. The car debuted in September 1990 at the Paris Auto Show. It was named EB-110 in honor of the 110-year anniversary of the date of Ettore Bugatti’s birth.

The general equipment was elaborated by technical director Paolo Stanzani.

Marcello Gandini was responsible for design, but main financier did not like that the car style resembled the Lamborgini models. Gandini refused to change the design that is why the work was completed by Jeanpaolo Bendini.

Absolutely new engine V12 was created by Nicola Materazzi. The volume of engine was limited by 3,5L (the same were engines for Formula 1), V12 with 4 turbines was capable of 560hp and had a top speed of 336 km/h. The car block was made up from aluminum.

Strong braking system was projected by Bosch Company and Bugatti completed it by ventilated ABS.

All units and aggregates of the car were tested carefully. For example, engines were tested in dynamometric stand with engine revs by 95% of maximum limit during 300 hours. And when gear stiffness reduced by 20% after 50 thousand km of road trials it was decided to require Aerospatiale rocket construction division to construct monocoque from carbon fiber.

This material is very firm and lighter in weight than steel and aluminum. Monocoque had full-drive system and gearbox elaborated with participation of Porsche company.

12 prototypes were involved in tests. Testing work was hold by Jan-Philip Vitekock and Loris Bikocci. The company Michelin provided EB 110 not only by tire that can withstand the speed of over 300 km/h, but also by winter tires.

The car exterior stands out by high arched doors. Interior is characterized by harmonious combination of high quality leather trim with walnut trim. An impressive dashboard includes clock, conditioner, electric programming of supporting surface, stereo/CD recorder with high audio quality.

Вugatti ЕВ 110 GT was introduced in September 1991. It did not differ significantly from base version. Only interior and power engine changed.

With 3,5 L engine of 559 hp the top speed was of 344 km/h that made the car to be the fastest one by the time.

In March, 1992 new model EB 110 SS (Super Sport) appeared. It was of 610 hp with top speed of 351 km/h. The car often participated in sport competitions and reached good results.

In 1994 Michael Schumacher bought such car after supercar test organized by one of German magazines.

Bugatti EB 110 became the best of the best but its future was not enviable. Only about 150 models were produced.

In the middle of 90s EB110 was doomed because demand reduced monthly.

In 1995 Bugatti company declared bankruptcy.
