Works [ edit ]

Partway through the BTCC season. WSR began their BTCC spec MG ZS. as a works MG team under the of MG Sport Racing. [ 2 ] The new car’s appearance was in round 21, held at driven by Anthony Reid and Hughes. [ 3 ] Although ineligible to points, the car showed some promise, with a victory at Hatch Indy Circuit. the round of the season – it was the only non-Vauxhall entry to win in [ 4 ]

For 2002, WSR entered 4 cars 2 MG Sport Racing entries for and Hughes, and a satellite team, under the Team Atomic banner, with Gareth and Colin Turkington driving for team. [ 5 ] The car proved to be reasonably in its first full season; WSR 2nd in both the Teams and Manufacturers and Reid finished 4th in the Driver’s [ 6 ] However, they were 151 behind the Triple 8 -entered Coupes in the Manufacturers championship, as team remained dominant.

For 2003. the team entered 3 for Reid, Turkington and Hughes, time all entered as works [ 7 ] The season proved to be less than 2002 – Honda Racing demoting MG to 3rd in the Constructors and Teams standings, MG once again won 3 races, Reid slipping to 6th in the Drivers [ 8 ]


Independent’s career [ edit ]

3 seasons, MG withdrew their support for WSR in 2004. [ 9 ] WSR, continued to enter a pair of MG ZS, by Reid and Turkington, whilst Hughes entered an older ZS in his own Racing team. [ 10 ] Using 3 years of knowledge gained developing the car, the team won the championship, and also a 3rd place in the standings. [ 11 ] Anthony Reid was again the best-placed driver, an impressive 4th in the Driver’s championship and was crowned as the Independent champion.

With Turkington departing for VX and Reid being involved in an MG entry for the 2005 DTM season. [ 12 ] WSR to enter a single car, by Rob Collard. [ 13 ] whilst Jason continued to enter his MG ZS, albeit at events. [ 14 ] Despite a low budget, impressed, managing to secure 2 and he finished 7th overall. [ 15 ]

For 2006. Turkington returned to the [ 16 ] partnering the retained Collard. The made the decision to switch to the ZS model, the A new sponsorship deal was with the RAC. with the now entering cars under the RAC name. [ 17 ] A successful season with Turkington finishing in the Independents, and finishing in a fine 3rd overall. [ 18 ] Team RAC switched to the BMW for 2007, [ 19 ] thus ending a partnership between MG and WSR. Racing entered 2 cars, on bio-ethanol, [ 20 ] in 2007 (driven by and Fiona Leggate ), [ 21 ] reducing to 1 for 2008, which would to be the cars final season in the
